your tank is amazing - i cant believe i haven't seen this thread before. your dimensions are exactly what I have been thinking of for years as the ultimate reef tank. I have a few questions:

what is the largest size tang you would want to put in there? do you think an 18" tang would be comfortable? What do you think is the limiting dimension in regards to this? length or width?

are you happy with the tank depth? do you think you would also be happy with 24"?

thanks!

This is what makes reefing fun!!!

Thanks for checking it out! I love the dimensions of the tank due to the endless aquascaping possibilities.

In the past I have had 5 tangs all over 10" with two of them at 15". I reefscaped the tank with rock down the middle with lots of swimming room around the outsides. They loved it and were healthy and happy.

An 18" tang is a large tang! What kind is it? Love to see a picture of it if you have one.

I am running a SPS reef this round so I sold all my big tangs. I do have a 10" yellow belly blue tang and a 9" blue tang in there now. They are like bulls in a china shop and frag acros for me all the time.

I think a 18" tang would love the 4 foot width and the 10 foot length. My next reef tank will be 36" deep. I built a 10'x3'x3' tank for my friend and we had a 15"+ Achilles tang in there and he did great.

Ill try and put some pics of that tank up here for you to consider.

I would encourage you to get the biggest tank your available space and budget will allow for. It will pay dividends if you want to keep large tangs... ;-)

Hope that helps!

thanks! i am planning for something 10+ years away. My favorite fish are the larger tangs. i'm just starting graduate school right now. currently i have a 4" bristletooth tang :(

your comments are very helpful.

Dave, that is so precious!

I am jealous. I wish my kids expressed as much interest in my tank as they do with their boyfriends and girlfriends!!!

The updates look great!

Thanks Dan! I love when the kids show interest in the tank. I have encouraged each of them to pick out their favorite fish and I ask them often how it is doing. I also offer coral naming classes to my older boys if they want to get out of their beds at night rather than go to sleep. (I always get their attention when I do this)

I will enjoy it while it lasts! I'm sure as they get older they will have plenty of distractions.

I'm in the coral growing mode and its going well. I need to relocate my two large blue tangs...those dudes are fragging corals daily. :headwally:

Thanks for checking it out...Your tank looks amazing as always!!!

Going okay. I've been pretty busy at work so its not got nearly the attention it needs, but overall pretty good. I just posted some pictures a few minutes ago.

I really need to come out and see yours!!!!

Also... might need you to build one of those fancy super feeder brackets for me!! :)

Come out anytime. :spin3:

We had some fun reef visitors over the weekend. We also visited Cliff Stradling's house and Brad Syphus's house as well. Great times!!!

I need to come by and see your tank in person as well. I can then take a look at the top of your tank and see how we might best make a custom superfeeder bracket. You around this week?
