Anemone can tell time?

I know this sounds crazy but my RBTA starts to close about 5 minutes before my T5 10ks go out! I have observed this a few days in a row... Anyone have similar experiences?

Yep, my GBTA did the same thing. About 10 mins before the 10K's turned off it would deflate, like clockwork everynight.

I've kept a few different species of anemones but only noticed that behaviour with my GBTA.

Yes that... and sometimes they will open before lights on, though I don't know if it's coincidental or not. Maybe the fish can tell time and the anemone can sense something they do like nestling in for the night or some such thing.

im sure they can tell time...my melanurus wrasse always dive bombs about 20 min before lights go out

And my pygmy angels do thier mating dance at 9:40 every night.

Most animals (most life in fact) have circadian rhythms - the ability to measure time over a 24 hour period. This helps them to anticipate when to engage in behaviors such as sleeping, searching for food, etc., and to adjust their bodies' physiologies for those behaviors. In animals (at least vertebrates), the molecular basis of the clock is fairly well understood and involves a constant buildup of a specific protein over the course of the day, more protein equals more time, the protein level gets "reset" to zero each morning or evening to restart the timer.

Even single celled plankton do this!
