Anemone ID Please!!

I just set up my new 24 Nano Cube and got some live sand and live rock and this anemone (i think) was on the rock. Can anyone tell me what it is, bad or good, and any info you might have on it. I'm a first timer with saltwater and I'm trying to get a grasp on it.

Don't know how to post pics either so I hope this works.

Here it is:

And this is the rest of the live rock:

It is an Aptasia, the worst of all the pests. I would absolutely remove it from your tank or you will be sorry. I would never buy any LR from tanks that have Aptasia on some of the rock.

Oh nooo........how do I get rid of it? I also noticed another tiny one on the rock that must be a baby because it's almost invisible.

There is also some kind of green brain coral on the rock, anyone have any info on what it's called so I can do my research?

All the store gave me was a liquid to put in the water everyday while it cycles called Coral Vital.

If you search the forums for aiptasia, you'll find that they are a pest anemone that multiplies rapidly - it can literally take over a tank and sting the corals you wish to keep to death. The most effective way of dealing with aiptasia is either mixing kalkwasser powder into a paste and using a syringe to dribble it on the Aip (basically chemically burning it), or use a product called Joe's Juice, which does basically the same thing.

Boil some water on the stove, suck up the water in a syringe and inject the boiling water into the aiptasia. They literally melt away and you don't have to buy any chemicals.

In your case, in a new tank, I would take the rock out and use a syringe and flush the area of the anemone with boiling water. That should take care of the anemone. If you can see this anemone on the rock just scrape it off would be fine. Make sure you get all the anemone and do not get fragments of it back in the tank, it will just regrow and multiply from fragments.

someone once posted about injecting with vinegar. Ive never tried it, but Ive tried the kalk paste and it was messy and I was worried it would burn the nearby corals as these damn aiptasia always sprout right in between a expensive coral polyps!

Thanks everyone!

I had a seringe on hand so I decided to try the boiling water technique first and if that doesn't work I'll try the others.

So far so good, it has shriveled up and hasn't opened since. I guess we'll see if that did the trick.

Thanks again!
