Anemone ID Thread

I know Im a newb here, but in my effort to self-ID what you'll see below, I stumbled across a ton of other posts asking the same thing. Figured it wouldn't be a bad idea to start a master thread where people can post up their pics and have some of the more experienced folks ID them for us.

I searched and didn't find anything similar. That said, if this is an issue, please modify as needed.

First off:

Found this small guy on my LR last night. He was closed up initially (first pic) and this morning was completely opened up (second pic). Has some green coloring to it. Any idea?

It's hard to get an idea of the size in the photo, but I usually assume that any small nem that remotely resembles a "baby BTA" is a majano anemone which, if left on its own, can quickly multiply. A few folks like them, most think they are pests.

It's about as tall as my pinky finger is wide.
???I don't know how big your pinky is.??? Try to give more concrete information. I assume it is about 2 inches in diameter. I think it is most likely a BTA. A clear picture of the mouth would settle this question.

Thats what I was looking at to see if there is any white lines around the mouth,if so it's a bta.I am not seeing any white lines, maybe the op will post a better pic.

I think it might be a condy....I'm not familiar with a tulip so it could very well be that. The color resembles more of a long tentacle...hmm...I guess my answer is IDK :) those are my guesses. If you could get a good picture with perhaps it more opened, it might give people a better opportunity to tell.

Here's some more pics. It's the best I can do at the moment.

It's to the right of that grass lookin' stuff. It's TINY when zoomed out.

I think that is a tulip anemone. Some people like them.

As I mentioned, tulip (Anemonia manjano aka majano, majono, manjano, etc.) anemones are liked by some but hated by most. Like Aiptasia, they are considered pests because they are stressful to coral around them, and will sting fish and other inverts. Once established, they are difficult to remove because they are able to regenerate from remnants.

I had a couple that were mixed in between my zoas/palys. They quickly killed the zoas/palys around them. I injected vinegar into them to kill them. You can also use kalk paste but you have to be careful not to get it on anything else.

OK... I know what it is... but lets see this thread get used to identify:

I don't consider Tulip anemone as pest or majano. They are (much) larger, don't multiply anywhere near as fast and looks nicer. If you decide to kill it in the future it is much easier to kill also with kalk injection. I would just leave it be for now.

Worm5406,
That Magnifica is nice. It will craw to the top of your rock pile. Good luck with him.

Thanks and Yeah... After aquascaping my top is about 10-12" from the water level. It would be happy up there... I put my GSP there now to see how it likes the higher output of light, to test.

Last night my OC's were all around it looking and checking. This morning my second cinnamon was routing all in it instead. Why cant he go be with his mate... Now my OC's will have to roam around for a while...

The rock it is on now is (in below picture) is on the left hand side, down low, right below the clown and to the right of the conch shell. (basically 1/2 from the left wall) (The gsp in the right is on the high point now on the left) (Its a little cloudy in this pic because it was right after aquascaping it is clear now)

I will do a new picture some time tonight, when I get home.

My 10yo and I filmed it some last night. I did an overlay of the audio with music. He really liked looking at it and watching the clowns investigate it. If you watch closley at it's mouth you can see it expand and shrink.
