Anemone problems

Wow that's a great inspiration. Should I leave the anamone with the piece of live rock it's attached to in the hospital tank while dosing? Or should I remove the rock in order not for the medication being absorbed by the live rock?
When it comes to dosing: I start with 500gr tablet, leave it a while to get dissolved in the aquarium water and put in the anamone, when I will be doing a water change I should dissolve the medication in the new water before doing the waterchange right?

You can order these online in Europe. Treat them the sooner the better. Let me know what antibiotic you have on hand right now and I can suggest a dose regiment for you. I would treat him with any antibiotic you have until Cipro or Septra arrive. Any antibiotic, human, horse, cat, dog fish whatever, is fine.

Finally I've got myself a prescription for a human antibiotic: Siprox 500mg film coated tablets
Ciprofloxacin. :-) how shall I proceed? Did not order the fish coprofloxacin yet. Is this one good to treat the anemone? If yes what about the dosing?
Thanks a lot really appreciate your help

Keep the Magnifica on that rock. If you remove him, you will cause unwanted stress and trauma.

Normally you would start with 250mg. Your anemone is in critical condition, so start with 500mg which is double the recommended starting dose.

You can either let the pill dissolve in front of powerhead by rubbing it with your finger. Or you can crush it up on a plate with a spoon or something flat. The finer you get it crushed the better. If these are "film coated" they may not dissolve well by using your finger in front of the powerhead. I would crush it if I were you.

To answer your question about the antibiotic you ordered...yes, it will be good to treat the anemone if it's Cipro. Doesn't matter if it is generic.

Again, divide your treatment tank in half. Put heater and powerhead on one side, and anemone on the other side. Make sure you have egg-crate divider In-between to protect the anemone incase he starts moving around in the tank.

Put a good light on him with light to moderate flow. Make sure you don't have too much flow while he is sick because they get weak and can't hold themselves up or keep attached to the rock or bottom of tank.

Do not try to feed him right now.

Again, dose 500mg about 8pm every evening "after" you do a 50% water change.

If the water is cloudy, do a 80-90% water change. While changing the water, siphon out any junk floating in the water or on bottom of tank. Be extremely careful not to suck up the NEM in the siphon tube. Don't even siphon around him. One mistake like that at this point can cost you his life.

Please read OrionN's protocol at the top of this page as suggested. All the information is there.

Good luck and keep posting pics. Use the IMG code (bottom link) not the direct links.

Can I use some sort of human antibiotic? Desprite and don't have from where to buy fish antibiotics locally! :-(

you can try seachem sulfathiazole if it's easier for you to get. I treated my mag with it and it worked. this possibly would buy you sometime to make an online order of cipro. its brand name is fish flox and you can get it from drs. smith and foster. it delivers fast and how long it takes en route depends on where you're located

Bro, have somebody call in human Cipro. You need to dose 500mg NOW!!! There is still time.

Overnight the meds bro (priority overnight), you can save him!!

He's really nice! Don't give up on him.

That is one of the most beautiful anemones next to a Gigantea.

I agree. from the utube clip it looked very saveable. I guess FDA has stopped cipro for human use. amoxicillin possibly works--at least it can buy some time while cipro is waited for

Hi guys, so the anemone is now in a 6gal tank (I don't have larger as I'm quarantining an angel fish in the quarantine tank. All set and about to dose the meds should I dose a 500mg pill in a 6gal? Would it harm even more?
That being said I would like to upload photos but the system isn't letting me as the pic should only be 185kb max! I think...:-(

A 500 mg pill would be good for a 10 gallon tank. You want 6/10 of 500 or 300 mg per 6 gallons. I would crush the pill, form it into a line, and cut it at the appropriate spot.

For pictures, I prefer using Photobucket. Just copy and paste the IMG link they provide into the text box here and your photo will show up. I put a space in the link to let you see what it will look like.

Yes I've dose a full 500mg tab yesterday. Today it was even worse than that pic. I will post a pic after I do a water change and re dose. Shall I dose a full 500mg tab today as well knowing he's in a bad shape. Or it's better to do half tab keeping in mind he's in a 6gal tank...

You would normally dose 250mg per 10 gallon.

I don't know if your pills are 250 or 500.

If 250.. use the whole pill in the 6/g tank.

If 500..break pill in half.

Yes, dose 500mg and don't stop and keep sending us pics. Keep doing your 50% water changes and dose afterwards daily in the evening time about 8pm.

I think you dosed too much, but it's ok.

If your tabs are 500..break them in half and dose half of that pill.

It's defienetly a BIG improvement from the last pico. Good luck on this and don't forgot to dose to do your daily water changes or more.

So, this is an update pic after 1 day of dosing 500mg cipro... I don't know if I'm just imagining but I'm seeing the anemone is becoming larger and the tentickles seems a little bit inflated... Today I've done a 50% water change and re dosed, a 250mg tab (half tab)

Justin, he's responding. Great sign. Keep dosing 500mg and doing your water changes.

What are you using for flow & lighting? This is importatnt and we'll be able to help you better.

Also, do not stop dosing the Magnifica even when he is looking better. Keep dosing for over 7 days straight.

I tought so as well :-)
For flow I'm using a small circulation pump which has adjustable flow rate ( I've set it in a way not to blast off the anamone, but enough to keep the water agitated.
For light I have a small led fixture which I hanged on top of the magnifica. Its not a super lightning but the tank it quite small and not deep at all.

Thanks for all the help guys
