Be gentle with me, this is my first post in the fish community. I purchased a purple and orange tip bubble anenome two weeks ago and it has already split in the tank. How normal of an occurrance is this?

What size tank are they in and what kind of lighting are they under? What kind of water conditions do you have?

BTW, welcome to Reefcentral.

My reef is a 90 gallon with a 27 gal sump. I have the euroreef cs-2 protein skimmer. My water conditions are 1.022-1.023. Ph is fine-8.1-8.2. Nitrates are 20ppm. I am currently using the coralife 4 x 96 power compact lighting system.

Thanks for the welcome.

Very normal. It may have been triggered by the change in conditions, size, feeding, etc.

Most likely when it is a new addition, it divides from the drastic change in conditions.

Keep the water in good shape(small water change with those nitrates), dont worry about feeding meaty foods for about 7 days, and keep and eye on the critters, IME they wander post split. Make sure the filter intakes and heaters are protected.

First of all welcome to RC! AS far as your Anemone it's normal. You must be keeping it happy, for it to split.

FYI:

"1.022-1.023."

That's a fine sg for fish only tanks... Tanks with corals and inverts are kept at 1.025 - 1.026

Seems like your reef does not have enough lighting. PCs don't penetrate very well. Their PAR is like three inches.

So 384 watts is not enough for a 90 gallon reef tank?

Its not about wattage per gallon...its about how intense and how much par the lights are putting out. If I remember correctly, PCs put only about 3 inches of PAR out. Thats nothing compared to the certain T5s that can put out 18 inches. Not to mention PC is limited to what spectrums they can have. When I went from PCs to T5s, everything in my tank took off. It was a great investment.

A Power Compact tube is essentially T5 technology, except PC's are rarely overdriven and the design/reflectors are inefficient. If you stay with higher PAR tubes, i.e. 10000K down to 5500K then at BTA will likely be fine.

agreed

OK, I am a novice. What is PAR? BTA? Sorry about not knowing what I am doing, but that is why I starting chiming in.
