Anemone still moving

i went to the LFS yesterday, and bought this beautiful rock that had a huge hole from their display tank. when i got home, the anemone was on the move again, but when i tried to move it, the clowns went nuts and the male kept attacking my hand and the female kept flicking her tail at me! they are vicious little creatures when it comes to protecting their home! so i just placed the new rock really close to the nem, and hopefully he'll find it eventually. but this morning, he was still moving around, but in the opposite direction. Also, when its moving it is still quite attached to the rock, and im not sure how to just get it off the rock.
any ideas on how to get the nem to move into the cave?

When it's completely unattached, you can gently place it in the desired spot with your hand. You can use surgical gloves if you are concerned about the clowns biting you.

My anemone moves when looking for food have you tried feeding him and see if he stays put? The also move due to lighting or waterflow so you may want to take those into consideration as well. My advice would be to try feeding him if you haven't already

Gary - this may sound like a silly question, but how do you know when its completely unattached? i use a new pair of yellow dishwasher gloves, but its still pretty scary when they are coming at you haha.

CA2OR - i have been feeding it 2 times a week, but this week i am starting to feed it only once a week. i think he is trying to find a good spot to put his foot on, cus he keeps circling the one rock. this is way i went and bought a large rock with a hole in it, and hopefully he will find it. Also, his last move was in the corner, which i dont think gets much flow or light.

I am not Gary, but... As stupid as it sounds, you will know when it is completely unattached, odds are it will start to float. But, there is a time before that, where it will still be attached, but will be able to be moved. Its foot will become swollen, with water, it will be pretty apparent that it is close to detaching.

oohh thanks todd, i do sometimes see its foot really swollen and puffed up, and the next morning it has moved. but this is usually late at night, midnight, when im about to go to sleep.
what do you guys suggest tho? to just leave it on its own to find the rock with the hole? or try to move it?

It would be nice to move it to the rock that you want it on. However, the rock you want it on, and the rock it wants to be on are sometimes different.

And it does seem that they always move when you aren't ready/there for it.

You can try to move it (( if it is partially detached )), and hope that it stays where you want it. However, there is no guarantee it will stay there.

Yeah, when they aren't attached to the rock any more they tend to kinda float around with the current. I know gloves are a good idea, but I prefer to wash my arm really well with warm water to remove any oils. BTAs don't sting very much, so that isn't a problem, and as for the clowns, I've never had ocellaris do too much damage. I've observed with my RBTAs if they are going to move it's right after the lights go out. If I were you, when it's on the prowl, I would gently put it's foot in the hole in the live rock. Gently hold it in place a couple of minutes and it will likely attach. It's annoying, but it will find it's spot and stay there, it just may take a little longer.

Yea, I have never had any issues touching BTAs ( or LTAs for that matter ) with bare hands. Though I will never touch my Haddonis without gloves. Besides the stings, they are like Velcro to bare hands.

Back when I have Os ( B&Ws ) the female would regularly draw blood. :)

Honestly, my female ocellaris has drawn a little blood too, but compared to my maroon, it wasn't too bad. lol

yikes, that sounds painful. it is actually my male clownfish i find that is the more aggressive of the two. He sometimes wont even let the female close to the nem and would chase her away.
the nem has actually moved on the rock that i want it to be on. maybe i'll isolate all the other rocks and see if it will find the hole. if not, i'll try to catch it moving and stick it in the rock. Thanks gary and todd for all the helpful suggestions!

i woke up this morning to find that my nem has moved again...but this time he moved to the new rock with the giant hole! yes! i didnt have to manual move him. now hopefully he'll stay there!

sorry for the bad picture, i was rushing out the door to work, and just snapped a pic with my phone.

That looks like a good spot. Surely it's tired of wandering around. Thanks for the pics too. It's color looks good and the clownfish looks happy.

I would think it is tired of wandering around. it usualy stays in one spot for 4-5 days, then moves. hopefully with this hole, it will stay put. *Crosses fingers*
