Anemone still moving

I have had my GBTA for about 2 weeks now, and it has kind of stayed in the same spot for about 1.5 weeks, sometimes moving an inch or so left to right. Last nite he started moving again and is now in the back corner of my tank. any ideas how I can get him to stay in one spot and not in the back of my tank?
Also, my calcium is a bit low right now, could that be affecting him?Its around 360 but I am adding coral snow to raise it. I am also changing my salt to ocean pure to get higher calcium. salinity ~1.026, temp ~77F, ph ~ 8.0 to 8.1. Thanks in advance.
 
I don't think your calcium level will have any effect on it moving about. Has anything changed recently?

What are your 'trates and 'trites ?

Lights and flow?
 
My guess is that it's trying to find a spot that suits it just right. I agree with Todd, I doubt the Ca is a problem. A rock with a nice cave plenty large for its foot and part of the column would be great.
 
nitrites and nitrates were 0 when I last checked, but that was last week. i'll check again when i get home. i havent changed anything recently. hm..i guess i'll have to rearrange the rocks again to make a cave, which i am not good at, i always have trouble rock building.
 
Or, if you could find a piece of live rock with a nice cave in it to begin with. If you have a large piece of rock, you could try your hand at chiseling out a hole/cave. Liverock is pretty porous and easy to chip away at, even with just a screw driver and a hammer. It does make a mess though.
 
oh no, i got home today to find my anemone slowly deflating. now he has totally deflated and is now the size of a baseball. what is wrong with him?? is it dying? i just fed him a piece of silverside yesterday and he ate it.
my clowns won't leave it alone either and keeps sticking their head in him.
please help!

or is it just expelling waste? i have never seen it do this before. also, its been deflated for more than an hour now.
 
It is very possible that it is just expelling waste. Back when I kept BTAs they would look like that from time to time. However, considering that yours has been moving a lot I am a bit concerned. Just keep an eye on it.

What are your lights, and what is your salinity?
 
whew, i just checked it, and it IS expelling waste. the clowns are eating it..ew. gave me quite a scare. i have never seen it expel waste or even deflate like that before. maybe it didnt find a good spot and wasnt expelling waste? is that possible?
lights are t5's, 4x39W. 2 actinics, 2 10000K's. salinity is 1.027.
 
IME, BTAs seem to do that more often then other anemones, so don't be too surprised if you see this once a month or so -- depends on how often you feed it.
 
only once a month? ok, cus when this happened, i was reading on karensroseanemones.com, and she said they do this once a day! so thats why i didnt think mine was expelling waste since its been about 2 weeks since i've had it, and it has never looked like this before.

Sure thing, happen to have the laptop right next to me.

They will get a bit smaller when the lights are off, but won't fully deflate like in that last picture.

Again, the deflations could happen more often, just depends on how often you fed, I don't feed my anemones all that often, hence the reason mine didn't deflate as often.
 
Personally I would. I feed my anemones (( currently I only have Haddonis )) once every 2-3 weeks. Did that with my BTAs and LTAs in the past too -- with good success.
 
Kimmi, I would expect it to deflate like that at least once a week or so, at least mine do. I feed mine two or three times a week. The more you feed the faster they grow. You should be fine with either once or twice a week.
 
thanks gary and todd for the info. i am still learning when it comes to my anemone. now the next time it deflates like this i wont freak out. hehe. i actually dont want mine to grow fast, since its already so big already, and im afraid it will split if it gets bigger.
 
so i am thinking of getting a big rock from the LFS with a nice big hole in it. now how do i get the anemone to move in? should i just put the rock beside it and wait till he finds it? or shoot a PH on its foot?
 
Looks good in the video. Is that where it is now? If so, hopefully it will stay there.

If it moves again and you get a rock with a cave in it, you can gently place the anemone's foot in the cave and hold it there for a minute. It will likely attach and then adjust to suit itself.
 
yup, this video was taken last night. its in the back corner of my tank.
i guess i'll have to leave it there or wait till it starts moving again.
