Another gig attempt

The reddish one to the right is a small mertensii. The one on the left is a (bleached) S. helianthus that I rehomed from someone

Cool. Do you have a tank build? I like the live rock you have and how the gig is laying in it.

Thanks! Yes I do have a build thread for the 540g. It's either in the large tanks forum or Marine Aquarists of Sacramento club forum. I haven't updated it in quite a while though. Basically I have a 300 and 540 plumbed together into a common 165g sump

Btw the live rock is just dry Marco rock that has become covered with various algae and coraline algae

They also share the tank with a blue haddoni

Found it. Massive tank. 8'x3'x3'! And i just want a 5-6'x30"x24" or something. What are the dimensions of your 300 peninsula?

I don't think I could go with tanks that deep. No way for me to reach in without going swimming in it.

Beautiful haddoni. It just hangs out there on the rocks?

Thanks! The 300 is 96x30x24. The "new" tank was actually rescued out of a home that was repo'd. I spent a few months refinishing it. For like $500 bucks and some elbow grease I couldn't pass it up. Dealing with a 36" deep tank is challenging but I'm figuring it out!

I am sorry about the small green one, but the purple one looks good.
feeding him and you will have a monster Gigantea in no time. My largest on is reaching 24+ inches with minimal feeding. I can see visible squirt of grow when I feed mine.

Thanks Minh! I didn't realize just how much mucus gigs produce until I had this big one in QT. I see why they need a lot of flow so that they don't smother in their own slime.

Shot a quick video of the gig today, showing the water flow around it. Sorry about the algae - had to crawl behind the tank and it shoot from the back to get the best angle!

I have one jebao pp20 at each of the tank, both set at "random". The flow from each kind of "collides" in the middle of the tank, creating quite a bit of random and turbulent flow.

Big purple is looking pretty happy. I fed some mysis a few days ago and it didn't open as much for a couple days after, but looks particularly fluffy today
