Another Green Wolf Eel Thread

Losses continue, it's bad. My partner Jeff thinks it's insufficient feeding, they get fed maybe 3 times per day and he thinks they need to be fed constantly. I made a really stupid mistake yesterday. I thought my little spice botle feeders I use with bangaii would do the trick. Dumb. Stupid. Didn't think it through. The baby we's can easily swim right through the 1/4" hole in the bottle cap. I came home to find dozens of them dead inside the bottle. Rats. I have maybe 100 left 4 weeks now.

I'm sure wq is not the issue. It is not aggression. I don't think it's food quality but well be quantity/ frequency. Or it could be something entirely differant like temp. They are at about 83F, maybe that's just not good for the species?

certain food may not offer any beneficial nutrients and i would think that 83F is somewhat stressing the animals.

About 100 made it through the die off, they are now over 8 months old. Most have been sold, I still have about 20. I isolated two and sure enough they are showing signs of sexual maturity and pair formation. I do believe they are hermaphroditic at this age. I plan to isolate another 6-8 pairs to see if I can confirm this. I am also waiting to see at what age they can begin to spawn. If and when I close the loop and enough info on them I'll put together an article for FAMA or =.

These guys are pretty cool.

David,

I'm no where near you, but I wish I were so I could come by and see your setup. I think what you are doing is amazing. They may be considered easy to breed and raise from a few standpoints, but where I am standing, I stand with admiration. It's awesome that you have successfully raised 100 of these little guys, and I hope you continue to do so. It's hobbyists like you that make this exciting. Congrats, and please continue to update this thread. I'm fascinated.
