Another lighting option hows this.

nothing shows up when I click the link. Your other choice looked pretty good, I must say... Prolly go with cee's recommendation on bulb if it were me if I were going with halides. The hamilton 14k's do look decent, though.

The link will work for you because the site has a cookie on your computer saving the information/shopping cart. It won't work for us because we don't have the cookie.

like chris said it works off a cookie and taking me to my own shopping cart and not yours since the cookie for your cart is saved on your pc. you will have to post the link to the item its self.

screw it ill try again tomorrow.
3 hqi retros

what site did you get them from for that price angela? hellolights?

The reason I talked about the lumen max 3 and I think pitbullpooch recommended the lumenarcs (don't know if it comes with a glass shield, but if not, you need one with HQI bulbs) is increase in light penetration and spread. I think both of these are made by Sun light supply. The setup you are looking at is a standard reflector that is not as good as the ones we named. The lumen is very similar to the diamond reflectors from a few years ago which were twice as good as the standard reflector, but the cost was very high. These reflectors are a lot cheaper and seem to be just as good. Not saying you need them but since you are setting up a new lighting system why not go with the top of the line reflectors and be done with it.

The reason I recommend the pendent over just a reflector is because it is easier to sell a pendent then just a reflector. You can mount the pendent inside a canopy if you want. It is very easy you just need some L brackets.

Keep in mind this is only one of many lighting options you have with that tank, that is why I am just outlining your choice. If you want to talk T5's I can explain the setup you would need and how to place it, will T5's work with SPS YES but that was not your question and it will cost more up front for a T5 setup for your size tank then MH double ended bulb setup. To get it right I would say 16 - 3' bulbs with ice cap ballasts so as to over drive the bulbs and fans to keep the bulbs cool.

Also remember with any lighting option the reflector will determine the light penetration, spread and direction.

The last item you will need to consider with MH lighting is heat. These bulbs/lighting systems create a lot of heat, just something else to think about.

yea the lumenarcs do come with a glass shield for stealth which are for the hqi de reflectors. the lumen max 3 like a said before was made for an open top look though and the lumenarcs were made to fit in the top of a canopy which is why there cheaper. either way were both right about going with either reflector. they both put out alot more light then any other reflector. If you go and read sanjay's tests using these type of reflectors(lumenarc or lumen max) compared to others like the ones that come with the hellolights reflectors they will blow them away. I use to use a spider reflector and it put out good light but added a lumenarc that my brother gave me and it was crazy how much more light i got from it and ive heard the same from the lumen max 3 that sir knight recomended.

Hmm, it wouldn't let me link the exact page but just type in 250W/14K and the single ended will pop up. I noticed they had some of those pendents listed but didn't look close at them Jason.

FWIW I upgraded from 2 250's and 2 175's to all 4 250's recently and am having a real hard time with temp controll. Went from a small fan blowing in the hood with the old set up to adding a big fan on the sump also and still pushing 82 easy most days. I wouldn't think 4 250's in over 300 gallons total would be an issue but it is :(. Lost most of my SPS frags from the swap in a 84 degree spike before I noticed, and a little too much alk addition may have contributed that same day..... ;) My track record with sps holds true! Funny thing is common stuff perished but my purple monster is kickin it... KNOCK, KNOCK, KNOCK yes on wood. Who knows with this hobby.

Are you using the VHO to add more blue/purple or just dawn/dusk? If trying to suppliment I don't know if using just 2 36" will make much difference when you are talking about 750 watts of MH.

Im hoping to avoid the heat issue since all my plumbing & sumps are in my basement 14 ft below the tank. My basement stays pretty cool on the hottest days of te summer last year my basement never got above 70 degrees & the water is going into a 60 gal sump & a 100 gal fuge.

That was the vho setup i was talkling about pitbull but the 3 light version & i would be getting to of those. Im probABLY gonna be going the luminarc route.
