Another option for red bugs

I agree,I would not try it on a living reef tank. It will kill lots of things incuding corals and fish.

When I dipped a hundred or so frags at once, despite cleaning them carefully afterwards, when I added them back into the tank it killed my peppermint shrimp off. Dipping fewer at one time I've had no bad reactions. Just make sure you rinse the frags thoroughly before returning to the tank, especially if the coral you just dipped has slimed up.

I killed off most of my larger pods when I dipped a chalice and it slimed all over the place. 2 rinses and it still killed the pods that devoured the slime.

Yep… Whisper gets all credit for getting the ball rolling on this, and back on p.9, you’ll see that flamron is the person who started experimenting with different dosages and observing the effects on AEFW. Throughout this thread you’ll find dosages ranging from 0.25ml/cup up to 20ml/cup… that’s a huge range. You’ll find that flamron was using the “Bayer Advanced Complete Insect Killer For Soil & Turf Concentrate”. See below…
It seems like most people are using the 10ml/cup, with some using as much as 20ml/cup. To break this down in ratios, the math works out to roughly...

10ml/cup = 1 part Bayer to 24 parts Water
20ml/cup = 1 part Bayer to 12 parts Water

I personally mix somewhere in between at 1 part Bayer to 20 parts Water... with no ill effects so far (nearly 1 year using this method).

Just dipped a few corals in the Bayer. Sure appreciate the info. I've been dipping in CoralRx and it didn't do the job for Redbugs.. but they don't claim it kills them either.
Ordered some interceptor so gonna do the whole tank soon.

Just sharing some notes:

Someone sent me a PM about where to get interceptor. I order from petsofoz.com
It's an Australian company so it takes a couple of weeks to get it.
I ordered this exact stuff:
http://www.petsofoz.com/interceptor-spectrum-heartworm-large-dogs-6-pack-blue-chew6.html
It comes in chew form. I have not got mine yet but asking around that is what other people have used and it just takes longer to dissolve than the old tablets but still works. May take up to 30 minutes to get it to dissolve.

I also got my Bayer this past week. I got it from Amazon because I just didn't feel like going to Home Depot lol.
It works great for dips but keep in mind this stuff does not kill eggs for AEFW. It also probably doesn't kill spores for bubble algae, hydroids and other stuff. So I will be setting up a proper quarantine tank for future intros.
I mixed 90ml in 9 cups of water. It killed the red bugs and planaria and AEFW pretty quick probably 5 minutes before I checked. I used a weaker solution a few days before that that did not kill the flatworms. You could see them swimming around in there. Maybe if you left them in long enough but that might hurt the coral.

There is another coral dip called "RPS all out" that is suppose to kill eggs but they specifically say don't use on smooth skin acros:

I read this a while back and while I really don't want to read ever page again anyone have a link to the correct bayer at home depot or lowes as for I have both down the road and want to pickup so I can dip all corals going into my new tank.

I was using a Seachem dip for a while, but somehow still got RedBugs earlier this year. I nuked the tank with Sentinel, am now pest free and use about 10ml Bayer per 8oz of tank water for 5-10 minutes with no ill effects. I've lost nothing to Bayer yet and I've dipped smooth skin acros and the like. No chalices, LPS though, just SPS. Bayer is great.

Now if only it would kill AEFW eggs.... :-)

Im pretty sure its this

Although I used the one with germ killer. This exact bottle.

Just FYI I used about 8ml per gallon of water for 10 min and worked just as well. Probably less residue too.

Thanks Nanighan for the help....just so happens I am about to run to home depot for some other stuff so I will see which of these two they have in stock.

So what is the current recommendation of Bayer to tank water for dips? Is there much room for error?
Is 4-5 ml per 1000 ml of tank water reasonable.

There's a pretty decent range for error, but I typically use 1 part Bayer to 20 parts tank water... which falls roughly mid-range if you see post #703. If I'm doing a single frag... I'll add 1 tbsp Bayer to 1 cup tank water in a very small container... which is 1:16.

IMHO... I think 4-5 ml per 1000 ml of tank water is too weak. If you want to use 1000 ml of tank water, I'd say 50 ml of Bayer would be more appropriate (1:20).

i used to dip with Interceptor and then I would do Revive after it. should I still do Revive when using Bayer's or is it redundant? ...i don't even recall what Revive was killing to begin with...

So just to verify. Is Bayer safe for dipping Zoes, shrooms? What is not safe to dip with Bayer?

I use Bayer to dip ALL corals. My first experience with it was dipping Acros, and when I saw how gentle it was even on the most sensitive smoothskin varieties I figured it would be just fine for LPS and softies as well.

Havent had a single issue dipping with it.

Just acquired red bugs....have been wondering why my PE went from great to non-existent....saw the little guys running all around one of my frags I got about a month ago. Looks like I'll be going to HD to get some Bayer and begin the process of dipping it....should I plan on systematically dipping everything in my tank? Or just the acros...or just the infected piece.
