Another Pygmy Angel going Dark

Hey Guys,

About 5 months ago I bought a tiny Multi-color angel. It went into my tank and dissappeared into the rock work. It was gone for over 10 days. When the fish showed back up all the white was gone from the body and it's body was dark grey.

The fish has grown from .75" to 2.75" in the past months, it's out all the time eats all kinds of food and still has no white only dark body color.

Last month I bought a tiny bright red flame angel. It went into the rock work but showed up cruising the rock work the next day and eating off the rocks. The flame is constantly cruising the rock, and eats some added food, but now the little flame is turning dark.

For feeding, I have a very healthy tank with a big pod population. The tank has about 800 lbs of rock in the tank itself. There is an autofeeder which adds Salifert and NLS pellets 3x a day. In the evening I add Frozen Brine, Mysis, Cyclopeeze and Daphnia. I also add Reef Nutrition Mysis, ROE and Arctipods several night a week.

Several times a week I add a sheet of Nori, but neither of the dark angels go near it (lots of tangs in the way).

I have a highly populated tank, but nobody is bothering either angel. In addition to these two 'dark' angels I have a pair of Goldens, a Goldflake, a trio of Bellus and a Venustus.

The third bellus was added about 4 months ago as a sub 1" fish and its up to 2.5" now and has spectacular color.

Any thoughts as to what I am missing from my tank that these two fish are going dark ?

Scott Fellman of UniqueCorals dropped by and saw the Multi-color and got excited that it was an aberrant Multi-color, I tried to explain that it was normal when I bought it, but he thought it was one of the cooler fish he has seen.

Over the years I have had multi-colors several times and never had a fish change this drastically so quickly.

This fish is coal black on the body with the purple stripes on the face.

Shopping Skills Not Photo Skills

I have great shopping skills, but not great photo skills. Here is what they look like this afternoon. Water isn't crystal clear cause I did some stirring up while cleaning the glass.

But here are my photos of my Ugly Multicolor:

Dave It's very easy in my tank
I am actually catching 2 fish again tonight on my 435
the powder blue and flame angel

last night I catch 3 fish ( 2 blue line rabbit and powder blue ) it takes a minute to catch all three but more than 5 minutes to remove it from the net.

Lawrence,

Sure you have nice open aquascaping your fish have no place to hide. I have so much rock, there are easily probably at least 20 fish always within the rock work.

But my offer stands, if you can figure out how to get him out of "MY" tank without messing up my aquascaping he can swim out his 'dark' years at your house.

PS - Picked up a pair of Brazilian flameback which are doing great, they took up a home underneath a melon sized colony of Xenia, was only going to get one, but the two started hanging out side by side while acclimating so I kept them both... Not quite like your harem, but they are great little fish.

Thanks dave
I have a Brazilian trio for over a year now amazing fish but when I removed the flame angel trio ( one is eating acans ) then When I return it the largest back the Flameback is not happy so I figure I will get a multicolor trio and flame trio too.

You can use a stick to drive them out of the rock work you have about 5-10 minutes of daze state on most fish :)
