another rodi question

My off brand rodi is leaking water out of the waste water line even though I am not making any water. This has been happening since I hooked it up on Friday.
What can the problem be?

When you aren't making water, are you turning off the water supply to the RODI unit or do you have a float valve in your storage container? If you are using the later of the two, which it sounds like you are, you need a special shut off valve on the RODI unit to shut off the water supply before it reaches your RO membrane.

To be clear, the "shutoff" he mentioned is an auto shutoff:

An auto shutoff like this will allow you to control supply in to the unit by turning off the product water line (i.e. with a float valve).

Of course, the other option is to just get a plain old manual valve, and put it on the source line:

Either way, the real solution is to shut off the supply to the unit. If you just shut off the product line, water will continue to run out the waste line as you're experiencing.

Thanks Todd. It's all good. I just need a valve on the supply side. My old one didn't need it and that threw me off. Picking up a valve after work today.

Not to hijack your thread but, how long is safe to leave the unit without water pressure? Will the membrane dry out?
