Aussie ventralis look a bit different to the Marshall ones with a more defined red stripe and facial markings. I plan on adding a total of 10.

My guess is he's trying to slow their metabolism, so they don't get so hungry while he's at work.

Bradley,

How do you feed them if you have to be out of home for a week or so?

Amazing! Do you have long term success with all of them? Or are you constantly losing the weakest? Do males of different species fight? Do you think it is easier to mix species or stick to only one?

My success has even surprised me. I have had very little mortality and for the most part the smaller, deeper water anthias all get along. My tri-color anthias are pretty bossy though.

Also, why is your temperature so low? Do you think that is important?
It is recommended to keep your tank temp low for the deepwater fish.

I just committed one of the Seven Deadly Sins... ENVY!!!
Great looking collection!

I have just a trio of Red Sea Lyretail Anthias and they're quickly becoming my favorite fish in my tank.
The largest female has been changing into a male over the past few weeks. Just beautiful.
Definitely fun to watch as my kids are checking in on it every day.

Thanks for sharing!

My tri color are named Ike and Tina! Cause Ike won't let Tina out of her den! But he doesn't bother any of my other anthias, disbars, lairtales and soon to be many more its my obsession!!!!!! Want them all. Soon upgrading to a 150 5x2x2 minimal live rock for more open swimming

Absolutely beautiful! I love my trio of regular old Stockies; they were the first fish added to the tank when I moved up to a medium size tank this Spring. If I could double my 140 I think I would have a long wish list of anthias for it.

Amazing. I am cycling my new 110g rimless and goal is to make it an SPS/anthias tank.

how big is your tank?

if you were me with 110g, what stocking list would u make?

Thanks! Truly inspiring.

my new 110 is up and ready. it has a ton of swimmming room cause its wide, deep and shallow. 48 x 36 x 18.

i picked up 1 male and 3 female squarebacks. they seem pretty happy so far. swimming in the open and eating everything i throw at them. only male seems a bit shy and has not eaten much so far.

he did not touch cyclopeze, lrs reef frenzy, mussles, pe mysis or life line. i hope he comes around. pics soon!

i guess i am in the anthias cub now.

A couple of questions:

1. Do they really need 125 gallons like LA says on most of them?
2. Do they really need to be fed a ton / day?

Most anthias gather in huge shoals for protection and literally eat all day long. I sat at 50 feet in Kwajalein watching the purple queens and all they did was eat (like most fish)

many of the deep water anthias are much like the shallow water ones, but should have cooler water. Most people dont have success with ventralis or the like because either temperatures or collection issues.

Very beautiful brad! Keep it up.

I know everyone usually says that a small group (like three) need at least 120 gallons. But do you think that with a 90-100 gallon reef a trio of anthias might work. If so which species would you most recommend.
