Any Adult Vlamingi Tang pics?

Not a adult but gorgeous nonetheless! Spinner is about 8-9inches long.

Does anyone know how to tell the difference between juvenile Valmingii's and juvi Lopezi Blue Spots? I hope that the 'Unicorn Tang' I rescued ends up being a Vlamingii...who knows. Would a pic help?

P.S. Picked up my Mata Tang today...pics later today!

In all fairness Gary, that has got to be one of the ugliest pics of a vlamingi adult I have ever seen :p Do a Google image search...some crazy pics, like this one:

Any truth to males being more coloful than females?
the picture you posted a link to is a male that's flashing, Peter. To my eyes, the picture itself appears color enhanced.
I'm sorry that you couldn't appreciate the picture of an adult female vlamingii that I posted. In all fairness, adult vlamingii don't always have their colors "turned on"- they often appear uniform grey with blue highlights that they can "turn on". (Most Acanthuriids can do a quick color change.) I had a hand raising this particular vlamingii, so it hurts to hear your comment. I have more than simply a casual interest in this species.
Make sure to 'google' the vlamingii in Joe Y's big reef aquarium at 'Atlantis' on Long Island. Peter Knop has kept this species in his big reef aquarium as well. You'll get a better idea of the adult coloration that you'll normally see.

Yikes! Sorry Gary. I thought my sticking-out-tongue smilie would convey my attitude with the comment. No feelings were meant to be hurt. Have a nice vlamingi thread :)

hi gary, mine was already almost 14 inches when i got him, was raised in a 400, now he is in a 600 and has grown about 3 or so inches in 5 months or so.

there are about 10 huge adults in the dallas world aquarium and they all look pretty good imho, plus they have a great personality to boot :D

you can apply your logic to other fish such as most tangs, large angels, wrasses etc, you don't see many grow to adult sizes when raised in home aquariums.

One fish that is best left in the ocean, due to it's tremendous size.
worth repeating again

Here's an 8 ft. long acrylic octogon aquarium that I helped to set up.
I got sick and tired of seeing bogus looking "fish only" marine aquariums; you know the kind ... full of "killer fishes" like Groupers and Lionfishes in an aquascape straight out of "Finding Nemo". Since this aquarium contains inverts like shrimps, crabs, worms, snails and seastars, (some are spawning regularly), it's not really just a "fish only" tank.
The Yellow Tang in the picture is a very big one, so you can just imagine how large the Naso is. It was grown from a very small size (a few inches long) and is now around 17" and developing streamers. It's quite obvious from this picture that an adult Naso vlamingii needs a very large aquarium.

All Naso species are very strong swimmers and a lot of food passes through these fishes. (A polite way of putting it!)

1,000+ gallon display at Rochester NY Strong Museum of Play. These are extremely large and strong swimming fish!

IME the vast majority of small vlamingii sold for home aquariums never reach adulthood.

I have to move twice in the next six months and don't want to put all the livestock and myself through that stress. So I am selling everything once.

While I love vlamingii tangs and think yours is a gorgeous fish, I highly doubt trying to sell it in a 3 year old thread in the Reef Fishes forum is going to fly. lol You might want to create it's own thread in the for sale forums.

I'm way ahead of you, thanks for the generous advice. I figured I would post here as well. As you may know people subscribe to forums so when new posts occur they are notified as occurred for me in this instance.

These are from Atlantis Marine World in Riverhead, NY. Sorry for the bad pics, I really need to spend some time with a good camera next time I am there. After watching them chase each other around a 20,000g tank, crossing 30' in a few seconds, you realize what minimun tank size really means to these monsters.

I'm well aware. I was making that suggestion to you so you didn't get a perfectly good thread about an awesome fish closed and or moved.
