I know Howard personally here in Hong Kong. Although I haven't caught up with him for a while he does have a business designing and selling his LEDs so maybe there was a breech of conduct here on the RC website?

I was curious so I did a search of his last posts and he pretty much stayed to
just posting in a few main threads. Unless something was deleted by the mods
I did not see anything recent that would result in a kick/ban. Google searching
did not result in anything either.
As for designing and selling his LEDs.. i clearly remember him buying brand name
stuff so unless there was a connection there of him pimping it without stating
he was in on it.. i cannot figure things out.
My detective skills are lacking. Maybe a real name would result in the dope.

Then it was just a matter of doing a google search with that name and
the word maxspect. A whois of the domain name below pretty much sums
it up. He is pimping his kit without being totally honest as I had no idea he
was so directly connected with the brand.
Plus that explains why someone would put soooo much time in putting his stuff
online in so many places.

Why was pimping his kit so bad? I get the fact he should have been honest and said he was connected with maxspect. But what's wrong with pimping leds?

Basically the user acrowhatever is maxspect or so closely related there is no
difference. Just looking at the source of maxspect's html on their main page you
will find

So you think it is alright if i create a product, come on this forum, pretend that
I am a normal user, claim it is the best thing since sliced bread, not pay this
forum's owners a single cent for the free advertising, and otherwise be rude breaking known
rules is ok?
If so.. this place would become a mess with lies, false advertising, and be useless
for people seeking open and honest opinions about aquarium products. All the
other vendors on this forum we pretty much know who they are and they pay
to be on here.. which keeps this site going.

To offer my own personal thoughts, I think banning some one because 'they're the company' and they don't disclose this is harsh.
As far as false advertising - well I'd term it (at worse) as unpaid advertising. Unless Howard was lighting his tank with halides then putting up LEDs for photo shoots; that would constitute false advertising - but I don't think that is the case.
I don't feel passionate about this either way, so feel free to disagree with me as I doubt I'll get into a debate.
I was curious though, it was nice to have some light shed on this matter (sorry poor joke) and I will be interested in following the development of his tank elsewhere. Irrespective of his industry links his tank is lovely and I enjoy eye candy.

I have always admired Howards tank. Loved the photos he has put up. But I suppose, IF he has links to Maxspect then that ought to have been declared. Aside from the potential breaking of RC forum rules, some hobbyists may not take such circumstances too well; eg if they went and bought the Maxspect lights based on Howards thread. Its a shame the thread is closed because I really like his tank. But I'll follow the thread on the other site.

Lost as usual
I just love his tank. I even saw it in person. When I was visiting him last September, he showed me how to take better pictures, how to store my Nikon camera moisture free, how to keep my water parameters stable and at what levels, how to get rid of my cyano problem, etc. He did not even mention how great his light was. Well, it is a shame that I can not follow his tank here. I may have to find another site to do that.

However great his LEDs, his tank or even his personality, he falsely represented who he was. That my friends is dishonest and not something I personally take lightly, besides if he is willing to do this....how do you trust any of his statements or claims.
