Any one know why "A reef in a sky scraper" thread got locked?

how much does sponsoring RC cost ?

I have no Idea ... but if its like 500-1000 a month or something, then Id be worried doing business with a company that cant pay that !

but to me, it seems like it was his own reef ... which we would love to see here ! I see LFS owners and many others post their personal reef pics here ! and they make it clear that they work for XXXX company ! I personally havent seen RC having a problem with that if the person doesnt advertise directly ..... he should have just made his affiliations clear, and show us what LED can do :)

I dont want to name other threads, but some have done the same and the thread is still open and around for us all to enjoy !

I could be wrong though of course :)

Well said Steve, and 100% correct. The guy had a hidden agenda and like all of the others over the years, they get ferreted out and removed. He was more careful than many of the others but eventually they get found and removed.

This sort of thing does seem to happen a lot doesn't it..

I've got to admit, I did not read that part where Howard was asked on 25 Mar 2011:

Mine? Yeah of course.

My initial perception was that he was just a guy who worked/owned an LED firm an kept a tank which was nice.

After reading the above and thinking some more, I am inclinded to agree that there was a hidden agenda.

If that would have been me, when asked where I got the lights I would have said "Guys I work for/own maxspects so I got it direct off the factory for free/at cost". It was the perfect oppourtunity for him to disclose that fact, but he hid it.

Also all the photos of him unboxing his LEDs and the detail on his light's performance, he put a lot more focus on that component of his system than any other.

That coupled with the lies makes me view everything - even the pictures - he has posted as 'marketing guff' and now I don't know how much of anything he posted is true, I have zero faith in anything he has said.

I have lost interest in his build and I will not be following his progress any further.

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if he was just an enthusiastic employee, or contractor. Who doesn't get excited about there tank, or when you get something new and shiny and want to show it off. I know when it snows here I get excited (I work at a ski resort). Ah well, guess we will never know. I'd be proud of the tank. I'm sure he put alot of hard work into it. I say lets send him a halide setup and have him continue the thread w/no maxspect products ;)

i'm not sure whether or not he is affiliated with a LED manufacturer. so far no evidence to prove that he is or is not.

he is generous. he gave a lot of frags during buffet dinner (few days ago), photos here:

And he is willingly sharing his SPS keeping experience to everyone in every aspect, not only lighting. I saw him few times in person, see his appearance on reef.hk everyday but he didn't promote/sell/persuade me lighting equipment. The most thread that he inputs is discussing about NPX effectiveness on SPS corals (http://www.reef.hk/forum/topic/1310..._115411__hl__討論用豆豆__fromsearch__1#entry115411) and alternative replacement for kz products.

but...... he has 2 English names: Howard & Roy. For a HK guy, it's highly unlikely to own 2 Eng name! don't know which is true!

what i percieve from him about 1 year that he is a SPS enthusiast, showing off himself that he is a successful reef keeper. if he got profit from that LED manufactory, he should promote/sell/persuade me during the dinner, but he didn't mention any lighting equipment, didn't ask me "what lighting are you using". what he sold me was a used kz potassium test kit at lower cost in Jan~Feb this year.

he likes talking, discussing, debatting, even spamming the forum...... an interesting guy:

Ok say he didnt profit but the company gave him the fixture with the expectation that he would blog about its positive effects...how would that make it any different than a company paying him 20$ per hour to blog?

Blogging is a huge marketing tool nowadays. Companies hire techies solely for that purpose because they know that much of their sales come from internet generated interest.

I usually don't like when threads get locked/vanish...but this is as clear cut as you'll get in one of these things. I don't like it when sponsors get threads closed because its unflattering to their company. I still am a little unclear why Sunny's thread closed a year or so ago. But this one, is very much deserving a ban.
