Any preference Clarkii or False Percula for RBTA

I have had my RBTA about 2 months now and am now ready for a pair of clowns in my 120 gal. tank. The anemone is about 6-8" when pumped up.

Any comments on what type of clowns would be preferred for this anemone - false percula or clarkii's?

although not always an option, i prefer naturally occurring host associations. as many here have reported it could take a long time for a false percula to adopt a bta. i like gsm's/bta's but i think the color gets a bit lost in a rose. i'd rather see them in a bta with a purple column/grey-white-pink tips morph, personal preference. i wouldn't recommend A. polymnus/bta because they're hard on their anemones. the smaller clown species in general spend more time close to their anemone, vs. A. clarkii which most likely will swim around the tank more than playing in a smallish bta. ime there are exceptions, such as A. polymnus/S. haddoni, P. biaculeatus/E. quadricolor...

One of Clarkiis natural hosts, is the RBTA. And I personally have seen more of those hosting BTA's than False Percs (a. occelaris).

I would go with a melanistic pair of Clarkii's. I have both, Clarkii and Ocellaris. The BTA is the natural host for the Clarkii's and I think they are just better looking fish. As they say though, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Prepare for the possibility that a pair of false percs may never dive into a BTA. Mine took about 10 months. I believe the only reason they decided to was because I moved my tank from my apartment to a house. It stressed everything out really bad, and I think they were basically scared into it.

Both clownfish are cool!
IMO the Clarkii are more likely to be interested in the Nem sooner, but I have a tankful of occelaris that love their BTA's and took to them within a day, so you may be fine either way.

Thanks for the feedback. I appreciate it! I think I will try the false P. and hope they bond as I prefer to have the smaller clowns and, with that, less stress on my small BTA.

My false percs have been in the tank for about 2 months with the RBTA. They stare at it or even stick their head in now and then, but they still won't dive in. I try to have them follow a big chunk for frozen formula 1 into it. Only time will tell when they will go in. Good luck though.

I have had quite a few clowns hosting my btas, including clarkiis and percs, but my favorite is A. melanopus .... by far.....great combo!

Clarkiis are known to be one of the clowns to accept any host anemone. My suggestion would be Clarkiis if that's what you want, but why not consider Tomatos or Maroons?
