Any tips on extricating Firefish from rather large rock?

I'm breaking down my tank to catch my fish and put them into TX/fallow in response to a crypto outbreak. My Firefish is hiding inside of a rather large rock, and I'm not confident in my ability to break it apart without injuring or killing him.

Does anyone have any tips?

all i can think of is putting the rock, with the fish in it, in a small tank (10-20g), wait for him to come out and then grab the rock before he jets back inside. Firefish are generally personable enough that you can get close without them freaking out quickly.

My firefish always loved to get caught in the bottle trap with some shrimp inside, the fish I wanted never went in though.

Seems some schedule 80 PVC elbows did the trick. Found him lurking in one of those, and was able to yank the rock out and safely catch him.

The rest of the fish were cakewalk by comparison, heh.
