Anybody got a spare skimmer?

Hello all,

If somebody has a decent in sump skimmer that is not being used, I am need of one on a loaner basis. I would need it for a month or three at the most.

My current skimmer bit the dust, and I am a month or two away from finishing my DIY Counter Current skimmer... nutrients are getting out of control and I can't handle to many more water changes... Most of my hard corals are suffering already.

im currently builing a new skimmer for my 75 and should finish within the next week. if you can wait that long ill loan you my current one. its an in sump skimmer that i built myself . it works good but i want to take my time on this new one and make it better. i dont know the footprint on the current one so let me know how much room you have and ill get back to you.

I have plenty of room, my sump is a DIY acrylic tank that is about 70 gallons.

I just don't have the time or money to finish my skimmer project right now.

Hey Bean,

Is this a really large skimmer you are building? For the cost above, you can almost buy a ASM G-3 skimmer which works great on a 75g tank (I use one).

Yeah but I can't run the g3 out of the sump... I want to run the skimmer next to my tank

I wanted to build my own CC skimmer (and could have done so a lot cheaper, but decided to go all out).

Ray I will have your bucket of salt at the meeting.

I dunno how much ... you can settle that with Ted, I am just the delivery boy. Of course You never know if I replaced the tropic marin in the bucket with my IO

Bean - are you set with a skimmer ? I have a Cpr Sr4 sittting in the basement you can use for a while- I was using it on my 90 reef , until I overstocked it from my boys winning too many corals. Haad to pick up a G3 a month ago. let me know. I will be at the meeting if all goes as planned. Let me know if you want me to bring it. Ray- I will check what you owe me for the salt.

You could just limit the kids ticket purcahses.. then you won't have to upgrade again, and the rest of us can win some frags

what all parts do you need to finish your skimmer bean. i know where you can get acrylic for cheap if that what you need.

I have a bunch of extra wooden airstones. I overbought the last time I ordered. If you want some, let me know. They are 3" long and about 3/4" by 3/4".

That would be nice to Steven... I can then hold off fow a month or two on the ceramics.

I have a 6" clear PVC tube. I need to build a riser, cone nad cup for it, but will be using a 6" to 4" fernco until that happens. I need to order the uniseals for the plumbing, and purchase a few fitting sto make hte hartford loop.

I also need to order a piece of PVC sheet from US plastics to make the base.

My plan is to buy a Alita linear air pump. They are supposed to be quiet and put out a LOT of air. At 5' tall I will need a big pump.

I purchased a 4x8 sheet of 1/2" cast acrylic for my sump at TAP plastics over on the north side. It was close to $200 I think (and and has surely gone up over the last 2 years).

I hate to slop this thing together at the last minute and hurt it's performance.

I found the post, looks like it was $25. Good thing you reminded me, I forgot all about it!!!

btw Z what source do you have for cheap acrylic... and is it cast?
