Yes....and if you buy the type of rechargable batteried that come pre-charged and don't lose their charge when not being used, they last FOREVER in the camera. I have 2 sets, and I just swap them out when 1 runs out of batteries. Much better than a battery pack IMO.

What type are you using that don't lose their charge?

Tonight, I shot the following. What I am a bit lost about is why in the view finder and the LCD the pictures look great but look foggy on my laptop and posts.

ISO 200
F3.5
1/100

I think I am getting the hang of it. Here is another shot of part of my tank. I guessing that this has to do with the DOF since I shot this on an angle looking down on the tank. As you can see the picture looks fine except the bottom is a bit foggy. Which would be out of the field of view.

Settings:
f2.7
1/50"
ISO 100

i need to get me some rechargeable batteries.
about the fogginess, go ahead and do a manual white balance and that will help out a lot, may not take all the fogginess out (a little PP can do that for you) but straight out of the camera it can do a nice job.

Now that's much better! Yes, you will get some distortion if shooting through glass at an angle....but other than the bottom part of the tank, that is a very clear shot. Did you do anything differently?

I am also wondering if on your other pics you have been cropping the pics you have been posting, or just resizing them and posting them. If you crop an 800X600 portion of a full size image it's going to be somewhat blurry.

ibanezgfx also makes a good point about the white balance. If you look at the pic you just posted, there is a somewhat blueish tint to the substrate, which means the white balance isn't quite right. What technique are you using to set your white balance?

Lastly, I noticed that your F-stop is at 2.7. It doesn't make a huge difference when you're shooting from farther away like in that last pic, but when you're shooting from closer in like the shot before that, setting your F-stop higher can make your pic much more focused....but you have to either decrease your shutter speed or increase the ISO (I recommend changing the shutter speed). Fore example, on the pic of the Zoas you just posted your shutter speed is 1/100, but Zoas don't really move much, so you could get away with setting it at 1/15 or 1/20 and set your F-stop around 6 or 7 and your pic would probably come out much clearer. (A tripod will also make a huge difference as it will allow you to keep a slower shutter speed since your camera shake is almost zero)

Anyway, great improvement in that last pic...you'll have the hang of it in no time.

I shot at 100. I also used the sharpness feature in the camera software. Overall this is one of the best pictures I have taken so far.

No cropping. I take the shot, get it sharper in camera software, do a printscreen and open it in MSPaint. From there I simply remove the unwanted part of the screen and save it.

For the last shot, I did not use anything. But for some of my other shots I did use the substrate. However the substrate is not quite white but a mix of black and white. I will play around with using the lid off of one of my jars to get the white balance. (In the tank of course)

I will work on the F-stops tonight when I get home from work. I did pick up a tripod which is why some of my shots are a bit more stable.

Thanks for all of the help. I will post a shot later tonight.
