I managed to squeeze these out before the batteries died in the camera this morning. I think they are getting better. My settings were on full auto as I only really needed to get a shot of the SPS that seems be growing out of the middle of my zoa colony.

I will work on better settings tonight when I get home tonight.

And the little SPS that has recently appeared:

Yeah, I almost fell over when I saw the preview shown on the LCD.

I used the DC150 filter and the extension adaptor.

I had the lens pressed right up against the glass for stability instead of using the tripod.

Sadly, I ran out of juice and I had to go to work.

I will shoot a couple more when I get home.

No where as good as yours, but I am working on it. Here are a few more, I will work on manual settings this weekend when I have more time.

I shot these earlier today. I guess once I start using the manual settings, the "halo" look will be gone.

Manual white balance and a lower ISO should make for clearer pics....but for automatic those are really nice. How far away from the front of the tank are those corals?

Most of them are about 8-10" from the front glass.

I will play with the WB this weekend. The problem is that I don't have truly white sand. It is black and white mix.

What are you using to get your white balance?

I find anything I can that is white.....the best way to do it is to stick a white lid from a container of Carbon or something in the tank at about the distance and depth you want to shoot at, and use that to set your white balance.

I have been following your thread for a while now and you are certainly achieving great results out of the Canon s5is.

I have the Canon G9 which is a very similar camera and I am going to try and get the same results as you.

Is there a macro lens for the G9?

With the pictures you post it sure would be nice if you also posted the settings used to get the shots. This would be a lot of help for a non photographer like myself to learn the techniques applied to get the best out of our cameras.

OK, I'll try to do that next time...
