Anyone else order the new Maxspect Gyre?

For your tank I think two would be perfect with how grown out things are in there. Im not sure how I'd run them though if I were you. They are going to make some adapters for the apex in the future which would be cool by having them in anti sync placed on opposite ends of the tank. I have no clue what it would take to do something like this with your reef angel though.

I'd probably grab one and test it on the tank to see if you like the flow. You're always welcome to check my tank if you're ever in the area.
Thanks for the invite I'd love to see the 120, barely ever make it that way though =)..

I think I'll take the advice on getting one and testing it out, watched all the videos on coralvuetv tonight and am getting that excited feeling..

Now I'm going to be forced to have a frags for sale thread get the other half on board =).or I can use my usual excuse of "it was on sale" . I usually get into hot water around black Friday lol..

Seem to hear a lot of bad reviews on this one. Especially the smaller version.
Will wait and see what people think about this.

Haven't seen many bad reviews. I love mine.

So.... what's the verdict? I've been thinking about picking one up. How is maintenance? Are you guys actually cleaning as recommended? Anyone get small snails and debris caught as some have reported?

Having the xf150 running in alternate mode allows me to replace 3 power heads and still feels like it created more flow. It's now running at 60% forward and 30% reverse.

As for maintenance, I just dip it in 1:1 vinegar and water for half and hour and that seems to do the job. But the one time that I decided to switch from 2 A to 2 B blades was a challenge. It took me literally several hours to get it working on both sides. That may be because I was unfamiliar with the alignment, but now I think I can do it faster.

Since I only have large snail, it hasn't been a problem for me.

So I would recommend it if you want to gain back some precious real-estate from the power heads and if you don't mind tinkering with it at least initially.

I am thinking about getting one for my 130 gal. I would like to see one in person before purchasing. I haven't seen any in store displays.

I got mine last December and I love it so far. I haven't had to clean mine yet except for going over it with a brush from time to time. I have it running on 60% and it's a lot of flow for my 125.

That is some insane power, as much as I am interested, I'd like to know if its possible to run 2 on each side alternating flow.

I don't see why not.
I was thinking that if the 2 gyres are switching at about the same time you can create 2 circular flow of opposite directions, one in front and the other in the back half of the tank. When the interval is up, the front and back half will change direction which should be a pretty cool flow pattern. This is all just hypothesis on my part since I only have 1 gyre.

I plan on buying a second gyre if they get apex support. Id like to have alternating flow patterns mainly because I feel one side of the tank could use more flow. (SPS system)

Other than the small snails breaking the propellers I have no complaints.

Correction.
The alternate mode can create 2 circular flows but only 1 at a time effectively splittting the gyre into 2 halves running at 50% duty cycle. The 2 flow direction is fixed by the blade and is not dependent on the motor spin direction.

The reverse flow is usually pointing at a downward angle so it's running weaker than the forward flow. With the 2nd gyre at the opposite side, it can balance the front and back flow to match what you need easier.

I have so many of those blue leg hermits and it sounds like they will just jam up the works.
I'm not so good with the cleaning so sounds like another ding against getting one for me.
I haven't cleaned a mp40 for over a year...lol

Anyone running 2 gyre in one tank? How do you have them setup?
I'm thinking of running the 2nd one vertically in to opposite corner. Any experience to share?

BTW, I found that running the alternate mode is quite harsh on the corals when it's in the reverse cycle. There's just too much flow coming down on the corals. I've switched to running it in pulse mode and loving it.
