Anyone fixes Kessil 360WE before?

I got a kessil and it was working great. one day I tried to see how the kessil controller works on it instead of the apex....Long story short, I plugged the cable to the kessil while it was off, and plugged in the power. The light flashed on once and never worked again. I sent it to kessil and they said "the engine has died". the light is not fixable...or not worthy to fix. I think maybe the driver is shorted or the 0-10V thing is dea....I might be able to just replace the driver or something....Any thought?

That Kessil is ridiculous..
IF this is what they mean:
The light engine at the heart of this new passively cooled Kessil LED light is a Dense Matrix Array,

Just means you burnt out the LED array, though pretty unlikely..
Need to figure out EXACTLY what the problem was..

The light came back and there is a note on it about the blue channel is not working.....I will need to open it and see the inside...

could be a diode out or a driver.. "blue channel not working" tells you nothing really..
Like I said, ridiculous..

Thanks you for your help. I think you were the only one helping me on my last question :-)

Anyway, I don't think they gave descriptive analysis...It might cost more to replace than repair .... I still have not had a chance to play with it....But I will 😂. This weekend is shot already...Maybe next weekend...

Kessil are really good about honoring the warranty - 2 years if memory serves (and if you bought it from an authorized seller). I had one blow on me under similar circumstances. My technical know how does not extend to repairing these kinds of things, but it was under warranty and they sent me a replacement. Hard to complain about the process.

you mean "it might cost more to repair than replace"..;)
Well, sarcastically, for a company that is rare.. ;)
Depends on how much profit you want to make on a repair..

Its a tin can w/ a circuit board, heat sink, and an LED COB..for gosh sakes..
Oh and some solder and a few screws..

Having been inside the Kessils before, I can tell you that repair the boards and replacing components/chips on them is going to be next to impossible. The boards are coated on both sides with a heavy plastic material to protect them from the humidity. It makes desolering and re-soldering next to impossible as the plastic melts from the heat. If you scrape the plastic coating off, when you go to remove or resolder, the plastic will melt into the parts you are working on and you won't get a good solder. While not impossible, it's a real nightmare.

So I managed to open the light up. Thanks to this gentleman's video link below
So like Slief was saying, it would be hard to fix anything as they custom build their driver...And it does not look like they even open the light up when I sent the light in for inspection....SOB!

:-); If you have opened a few lights here and there before, you might be agreeing with me. There way the dust was built up. It is almost impossible to open inspect and put back without touching those areas....

How could you possibly tell whether it was opened for inspection or not?

So I looked at the light and almost gave up because I don't think I can find parts to replace plus they put silicon everywhere...Not worth my effort :-)

So I blew the dust off and cleaned it a bit with a dust blower AND I plugged it back in just so I could close this chapter, And holy smoke..... It worked. I was like, how about if I plug the kessil controller in again... And it works too.. Wooo hooo. I have no idea what happened. I am very sure I plugged it in when they just shipped it back hoping for a miracle and nothing worked.

As irony would have it, I do open up my lights all the time to blow out the dust accumulation. Whether that helps with longevity I cannot say as I've not had them beyond 2-3 years yet. So, were I to send any of mine back for diagnosis, I'd not be able to tell - that's why I asked.

Good that you got it working again!

;-)

I will need to do a lot of cleaning... There is lots of dust behind the heat sink and in many places...After 2 years, what do you expect right?

It looks "clean" on the outside but man it is filthy after I open the "can"....The Rep from Kessil advised me before sending the light in that I should open and clean it periodically, but I was just lazy.....Then her tech reported that the light is clean but the engine has died.....SMH

Go buy a lottery ticket!

Good news!

So just spraying canned air into the vents is inadequate? Kessil recommends actually opening the units to clean periodically? Mine is brand new so I haven't tried anything yet.
