I started off FO and now I've been slowly buying LR from wetpets but its getting to be really expensive so if anyone wants to help out a fish obsessed college student, I would love you forever!

You do not need to buy a bunch of LR. Dry base rock will become "live rock".

Some people prefer to purchase LR and enjoy the "diversity" that comes on it. Others like the look of rock from specific regions. Some of us prefer to save our money and only buy or trade a few pounds to seed the tank.

You will find differing opinions on this subject. I Firmly beleive that the "diversity" will come from trading with other reefers and that LR is not needed. The beneficial bacterial colonies will grow with the base rock as the tank matures.

how many pounds are you looking for.i am getting ready to take my tank down.

Not much... I have a bunch of base rock, not sure how many pounds and then like 10 pounds of live rock. I would just like one or two bigger pieces of live rock just to try and even things out a bit.

I was told that it would take a really long time for the base rock to be seeded because I didn't have my LR.
