Anyone have experience with belted sandfish?

I plan on keeping belted sandfish Serranus subligarius in a 29g. I have mollies acclimated to saltwater in the tank to provide small fish for them to eat. Looking to see of anyone else has had them and can give me some personal experience with them, behavior tank mates and what not.

Haven't kept one personally. Scott Michael's reef fishes volume 1 has a blurb on them.

Looks like they are very hardy. Get about 4". Will be pretty aggressive. Looks like they are hermaphrodites and would breed in captivity. Are you going to keep a pair?

I would go easy on the mollies and get some frozen silversides, mysis, krill, etc.

I had one in a local tank for a while. Kept to itself and ate normal offerings of frozen foods. It was with other fish the same size.

I do plan to keep a pair. Of course molly babies won't be the only food. I do have frozen mysis and I'll be getting live brine for them also. I've also been looking for ghost shrimp to keep in my 20g that I wanted to feed to them.

Thanks. Can you elaborate a bit on what fish they were? Other basslets? damsels? clowns? or predatory fish.

Blenny, Black Sea bass, flounder, sand perch, filefish, oyster toadfish, all around 3" - 4".

Ah! Thanks! Looks like it will do well quite well in a community setting.

Another question for you, from what i've seen of it, it lives in the lower level of the water column, near the substrate?

Yes, it was not an open water swimmer. Stayed near the bottom and structure.
