Anyone here familiar with the modded mj1200?

I need another powerhead in my 80gal. I was thinking about getting a seio820 or 1100, but read some good things about the modded maxijets. Anyone here use it? Thanks!

It will move more water than standard version but the main advantage I see is when it's on a wave timer. That way it moves water one way or the other based on which way it rotates when it comes on each time. Still though it won't move as much as the seio IMO.

Well, I think thereare two mods. One is the one that SteveU describes: cut off the outlet with a hacksaw to increase outflow (and add randomness) and drill holes around the intake to increase inflow.

The other one is the "maxistream" mod that is intended to make the mj operate like a Seio or a Tunze. There is a massive thread on this, as well as people selling "kits" of the parts you need. Do a search and see if you like what you read.

I have a friend that went through this route and it's still not nearly close to a seio...his opinion as well.

The stream mod is icnredible. It really turns a crappy $20 power head into a powerful Tunze like stream pump. ANd it's so easy. My friend bought a kit and fitted it himself.

Yea, and that guy is about as handy as an icemaker in alaska.

In other words, the mod is super easy to do (from the kit)

I'm using two "bought" MJ mods on my tank. The flows is pretty sweet. Seio's aren't an option for me, they lockup to easy using a Ca reactor and Kalk.

I have 2 MJ 1200 mod...i dont like the results.

I made the maxistream mod, it does increase the flow but if you don't have power tools it's hard to build since you have to center the impeller perfectly or else it will vibrate really loud.

My MJ mods are doing at least 1200 gph, each. Small, clean looking and there's no worries of them locking up. I used a couple Seio 820's for a while. They had to be cleaned every week or they would stop. Not to mentionI had one burn up. It didn't pollute the tank like the Rio but it still burned up.

hey....I'm the icemaker from Alaska and I concur about everything said....the thing is ridiculously simple to make when you buy the kit and it definately pushes water like mad...just mnake sure you use the CA glue to attach the prop to the plastic shaft

No kidding, for $60 plus $20 for the MJ itself, you might as well get a tunze. Funny how everything is "due to high demand, we currently have a 1-2 week lead time for all orders."

Steve, I haven't seen any other link that has the completed kit. I do know that the better the impellers ballance the better the flow. I don't have any problem doing it my self. I just happen to have the money not to I also have a box full of old pumps and other crap so the 20.00 for the pump was spent long long ago. Regardless, these beat the Seio because they run longer then a week and they also beat my Tunze because their half the size.

lastin1, When you find a Tunze pump for 60 bucks let me know. I need another one.
