anyone keep 2 unbonded Banggai cardinals?

Is keeping 2 only possible with a bonded pair?

In other words -- if I get 2 females, 2 males or an unbonded M/F pair, will they fight? Or is my 120 gallon with lots of hiding spaces big enough to prevent any problems?

I found 1 post using the search function that did state 2 males will fight, but I'd like to hear some opinions or personal experiences.

I bought three in hopes of getting 2 bonded. 2 were beaten down. I have tried on several other occasions to add another since then, It all ends the same way. Death

i found the same results when i was hoping to add a couple of bangaii's to my 120. to avoid trouble i stuck with only buying 1 and never have to worry about it now.

I had one of a pair die in my 250g. I tried adding a new one twice, but the older one killed them both off. I assume I ended up with 2 males or possibly two females. I don't know the sexes of the original survivor or the ones that I added. But I thought this would be helpful in terms of tank size; my 250 wasn't big enough when the sex combination was wrong.

I bought 2 out of the same tank at a lfs with about 15 in it. didn't really know how to tell M/F and I guess just got lucky. I have had the 2 for 3 years now and they have bred probably 5 or 6 times (maybe more). I only know cause the male's mouth will be full of eggs until they hatch, then the babies just disappear. I assume they get ate by other fish etc in the tank or sucked into the overflows and whatnot.

Having a breeding pair of Bangaii cardinals is awesome, mine used to breed all the time. Sexing is hard but if you put in the effort you will be rewarded.

OK, you twisted my arm. I'd really like 2 but how hard is it? I have read & seen pix about the vents, but never in person.

I have 3 in a 29 gallon QT tank for 8 weeks so far... one has a couple nips in a fin but other then that they are coexisting and I never actually see any aggression from them.

they are about ready to go into the DT so i guess we'll see what happens when they go in.

I just bought two yesterday. Don't know what sex. They are really small. I do know they are definitely siblings. I guess we will see.
