anyone know anyone @ MEGA PETS in Osyter Bay

Vince,
I tried to take the high road not calling you a lier but here a goes. You started the conversation by telling me you bought the fish 2 days ago. I checked my records while we were talking and it was 5 days. When you start a conversation with a lie where do you expect it to go? Also you just lied about how often you come in and how much you spend. I'm not wasting any time more time on this except to say that I setup my 1st saltwater tank in 1976 and that I've sold about $15,000 worth of saltwater fish a year for the last 5 years without a complaint until you. From 1985-1995 I worked at Pets Plus in Freeport where I sold about double that but in those 10 years I did have one other complaint. I'm comfortable with my track record.

Happy Tails, Joe

Have a good life, Joe

Tread carefully, name calling is one way to put an end to this conversation, but quick.
I think you both could use a little education on ICH, as from your comments above, neither of you really grasp the way it affects, and EVENTUALLY can kill fish.

Come into Mega Pets. If you can find a fish that isn't healthy try to buy it. I guarantee no one will sell it to you.

No one guarantees saltwater fish any more and especially not after 5 days.

Fishtown gives you 24 hours.

I bought a powder blue that did not make it and they replaced it no questions.

Vince,
Sorry for your loss, but you know what the only guarantees are in life right?
I suggest you ask what the stores policy is on livestock before you purchase. If they tell you something different make sure they write it on your receipt and have them sign it.
Other than that. Spend as much time in the store watching/feeding the fish you would like to buy.

This is an expensive hobby we all know that. Sometimes we win sometimes we loose.

Eric

Thank you for your kind words Eric, I'm learning my lessons here.

Larry, thank you for the link. I have to admit, I was never given a real chance to learn about ICH untill now. Most of the times, I've been just doing preventive measures to avoid ICH. You're right, I do need a lil education on ICH. :D

Joe, you don't have to type out your work resume for me. I really could care less. lol, you know what? I probably spent over $15,000 in this hobby over the last 5 years through various LFS, and the only complaint I ever had was against you. I guess we are on the same boat Joe.

I did not start the phone coversation by stating that I bought it 2 days ago, I started the conversation by going "I bought a hippo tang few days ago...do you remember?" You are the ONLY guy that's always there, why would I even bother with the # of days. Of course you remember. You remember me being skeptical about the ICH, and you remember telling me that it had no ICH, and through that phone call, I helped you remember that you were wrong about the ICH. Please don't call me a liar when this thread is based on how I perceive you as a liar, but like I said before, it's pointless to argue about it.

How could I even lie about how much I spend in your store when, everybody knows, anytime you buy something from a saltwater section, it will run you above $50. I spent over 80 dollars in your store when I was buyin the hippo and that was me spending much less compared to other days in your store.

Speaking of your fabulous resume, if you have had so much experience in this hobby business, you should know that it's crucial to build a strong relationship between you and the customer. This is crucial in any business, but especially in this reef hobby since we are dealing with live merchandise and the relationship does not end at once. It goes on for years, untill we get tired of the hobby. Why don't you realize that if you could've been a little more nicer about this 50 bucks I spent on the sick hippo which apprarently wasn't sick according to you, I probably would have spent double, triple the amount next time around? Obviously you don't know since your attitude is nothing but "I could care less once the transaction is over..." You lost my respect when you hung up on me after frantically trying to run away from what was your responsibility.

Challenge? Why would MegaPets even have a sick fish in the disply tank? Don't state the obvious. Of course you shouldn't sell it. Just like how you shouldn't have sold that sick hippo.

I did not pursue the matter directly with you after you hung up on me. You found this thread by yourself, or probably with a help from someone else on RC. Don't sign up on RC on your own terms, come on MY thread, and tell me that you won't waste your time anymore. Don't waste our time with your obvious phony explanations. If you believed that my case had no base whatsoever, you wouldn't even have bothered coming on RC, trying to defend yourself with some more lies. Obviously your guilty conscious lead you here. This was a case of bad, no, horrible customer service, thus resulting in Megapets losing a long term customer. End of the story.

As an FYI, I have found Mega Pets over the last three years to be one of the most reputable stores on the island. Joe is extremely honest and has stopped me from purchasing new fish that just arrived into the store. I have been raising tangs for the last 3 years and they are all susceptible to ICH. I quarantine any tang purchased for 30 days using copper. When the fish is eating well and appears not to be rubbing against rocks, I introduce it into the new tank. I have several cleaner shrimp in the tank that constantly are cleaning the tangs. Hope this helps.

Vince, youââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢re not going resolve this by complaining here, but if you are shopping at a store for a while and having good success with their stuff and then you get stung.

Look at it this way.

You had the trust in a store to spend thousands (you said, I think $15,000) over time and now you get hurt for $50 bucks what about the $14,950 that was without a problem.

The percentage was way in your favor, water under the bridge, go forward.
It's up to you to give them another chance or just shop elsewhere.

As to the response of the storeââ"šÂ¬Ã‚¦Ã¢â"šÂ¬Ã‚¦Ã¢â"šÂ¬Ã‚¦Ã¢â"šÂ¬Ã‚¦Ã¢â"šÂ¬Ã‚¦.. not all that intelligentââ"šÂ¬Ã‚¦ leave it there.

As for LI_JoeCââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢s comments goes to show you can please some of the people some of the time.

Stores selling fish are doing so without selling life insurance you pick them out as carefully as you can and they still can drop dead for some unknown reason, thatââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢s the nature of the beast.

This thread began as me hoping to resolve or discuss the issue with the RC members. After listening to what they have said, I decided to drop the issue. I probably would have shopped there again. You can probably see from my posts that I really wasn't looking to take this issue further. Then Joe came along, and fueled the issue further, since I believe something, and he believes something else. I'm just glad Joe came on RC to clarify that I really shouldn't waste my time at a store that gives off such attitude towards their customers. I did enjoy other specimens I have purchased from mega pets in the past. Customer service was the problem here. I didn't expect any real results by posting my story on RC. I'm simply guy a who lost live products that I have invested time and money on due to a irresponsible salesperson, and I wanted to see if anyone knew anyone at megapets that could sympathize towards my story since RC is such a huge community. I think I'll shop mostly online from now on. Much less hassle and probably better customer service too...

Can't agree with you there, online has way more risks.

Aquarium Adventure has a 48 hour guarantee. I have even received credit 3 days after purchase. One time they sold me a trigger who killed my flame angel (which they had sold me a few weeks before). They took back the trigger for credit, and gave me a bucket of salt as "compensation" for the flame. Bottom line is they are a little pricey, but they have a solid guarantee and are willing to work for their customers' satisfaction.
