Anyone selling any Tunze's?

Got my new tank set up and figured I would have had enough flow from my dart in a 110, but there isnt enough. Not sure why, maybe because I have it running 8 returns?? o)

Just checking the locals before I go out and try the forsale forums or buy new from Premium Aquatics. Figured maybe some of you folks were looking to drop your Tunze's for the new Vortechs. Id buy one of those myself, but I dont want to wait for them to finally release it.

If I can get my hands on those maxijet mods, I'd probably sell my Tunze -- 6060 (not controllable).

what is the maxijet mod? I went to the site chuck snow posted, saw the stuff they are selling but can't figure out what it does to a maxijet that would make ostrow sell his Tunze?!!

ostrow - Looking for a controlable one unless your selling it for dirt. o)

Im also curious as to what those mods to do a maxi-jet to make you sell a tunze???

I will join the group that are curious as to how well this modification works (any problem with broken mod impellers). I have maxijets laying around in which this mod would be very cheap in comparison to a tunze!

I've been playing w/ a MJ900 and one of these mods. My housing isn't pretty, but it's functional. I'm basically fabricating the shroud w/ a dremel tool, and I don't have the skills to make all my cuts nice and neat.

So, if you can get past my shoddy craftsmanship - I will say these things do crank out the flow. I am using a single dumas prop (which has now been rated as the least desireable of the boat props to use), and this MJ 900 is pretty much matching flow or exceeding the flow of my Seio 1100. I have no doubt the people who have mastered this mod (using the better props and well designed shrouds) are getting 1500gph or more out of a MJ900.

It's really not difficult to do, maybe $5 worth of parts and a couple hours max.

Some of the early adopters of this mod report their MJ's have been running for close to a year w/ no problems.

The only real tricky part of the mod is making sure you center the impeller shaft in your shroud. You accomplish this by putting a cross brace across the end of the shroud. If the impeller/propellor isn't centered, you get some vibration and noise.

The benefits? $15 pump and $5 in parts, gets you a small 1500 gph stream flow style pump that can be used on a wavemaker!

I have one of those MJ mods, and it works really nice (dual impeller). I glued on the maxi to an old scraper.

sellout007 Those are pretty spiffy. Maybe I should just get one of those instead. Anyone know someone who makes them?

I would talk to our local machinist..... Mr. Lehman

There was a place marketing them but that seems to have disappeared on my Google search. Don't know what happened. I don't have the tools to make it myself. If someone finds a seller let me know.

Now you know my answer. Plus, I've had problems with my Tunze seizing on me. Not as often as Seios, but Maxijets never seize....

So I was going to buy a siezing Tunze from you? Thanks! :D

LOL -- I it's actually only happened twice. Once was a bum impeller (drive shaft), the other time I think it was a snail that crawled in. More my bad luck than bad Tunze I assure you ... my luck in this hobby is legendary already.

No, I want to try the Maxi stream mod because of the lower profile, lighter weight for the swirl I set up, which combined might tempt me to set up two of those swirls if the Maxi stream is good enough.

Rickyb, where did you get yours from?

Ostrow - Ive been told that Justin up at Oceans Floor will do the MaxiJet mod. You might want to check with them up there.

I just purchased a MaxiJet and am going to attempt the mod myself. Ill let ya know how it goes.
