Anyone using a light mover?

Hello all, i have been running the LR3 with Rapelli motor for almost 4 months in my 4x4 240gsystem 1x1000w metal halide Hydrofarm ballast. The only word i can think of is Excellent :). My corals coloring up faster than i thought i grow is out of control.

With rapelli motor i can set it to pause at each end for 15sec up to 1 min.

Are you guys talking about moving the light back and forth constantly throughout the day, or starting the light at one end of the tank, and SLOWLY moving it to the other end of the tank over the course of the day?

I don't but I plan to with my next tank upgrade. I plan on a 4X6 or 8 ft tank with a pair of some big ol halides that start at the one end and move to the other as the day passes.

i think most of these kits move the light constantly, only allowing 1 to 2 minute pauses at each end. This would give very even coverage, but would drive anyone crazy.

Can someone take a picture of their rail, and maybe even a video of it moving?

Some questions: How loud is the one from argamover on ebay? How long does it take to get to the other side?

I'm planning on one controlled by my Neptune AquaController III, though not sure how to get it to start on one side of the rail every morning =/

I'm from chicago. I found a place called altgarden.com they are in cary ill. But you can go to sunlightsupply.com and find a supplyer in your area. Just look up dealer search when you get to the page. I talked to a person at altgarden.com he told me these are the best for over a reef tank he sells them to reefers likes all of use. He said that can adj. the traval to stop where you want them to, i asked him if there is a lot of swing at the end and he said no but if you want you can buy the robo stick that will stop any of the swing . He also said that he would get the lr3.5 and . He also said that the only thing that may want to get is the drive wheel kit, he never replaced them on his should last a long time lr3.5 cost is $189.95 plus if you want the replacement wheel kit it is $5.95 and the robo stick is another $29.95. This sure will beat having several metal ball. will cut down on electric bill. I am going to pick mine up on monday.

For me, I'd be moving it back and forth all day. I think that corals wouldn't really care either way though. Those people with longer tanks could set it up to slowly move one pass per day I imagine.

I have a few questions:
Those with the agramover:
- how loud is the motor?
- does it have a bar to keep longer pendants from spinning?
- can you cut the rails shorter? I only want 3 to 4 feet of movement tops.

I found him on ebay, and the prices are good.
For the entire setup it's $129 for the motor and $25 for a 6 foot rail. I think that's all you need?

shipping is like $13.

So far it sounds like LR 3.5 might be completely silent, so I might go with that system... still trying to decide!

I'm still looking into the light movers. The problem with them is that they move the light from end to end in about a minute, even faster with shorter tanks. The agramover said that he can get slightly slower motors at a higher cost though. I'm toying with looking into a custom solution, but I haven't had much time lately to research.

Does it make a noise each time it starts up? If not too obnoxious of a noise you could have it come on for a 5-10 seconds or so an hour.

yeah, I've heard the LightRail 3.5 which is the most popular especially in hydro stores are completely silent. i think I heard mention that the agramovers are a bit louder.

I have the LR3 and mine is completely silent:). You can buy 3ft tracks if you only want a short one and you can make the LR3 motor stop and turn around wherever you want on the track. It is kind of hard to explain but when the motor gets to the end of the track, a plastic bar on the motor that controls the direction of the unit will be pushed in and that is what causes it to pause, and switch directions. You can place a stopper anywhere on the track and when the plastic bar hits it, it will switch the direction of the motor. Also, I believe that I have seen a stabalizer so that the light does not swing, and there is also a add a lamp kit so you can run 2 lights on 1 motor:) I only have the motor right now, still need the track or I would shoot a short vid for ya. I can take some pics when I get home tonight if you need more of a visual to see what I am talking about:)

I'll let you guys know how audible the agramover is. I purchased the agramover one a few days ago and should receive it next week. I'll let you know how loud it is. If it is too loud, I will probably switch to the lightrail 3.

As for the track, I purchased the track from McMaster dot com and you can get any size you want.

lol, yeah it would be funny, it'll be like a strobe light underwater for the fishes. From what I was told it would make a round trip on a 2' rail in 1 minute.

Since mine will be run on a 4' rail than it should make a round trip in 2 minutes. So it is a decent speed....I think.

Is anybody running it slower/faster than 6rpm? What would be the benefits of running it slower/faster?
