Anyone with a Regal that DOESN'T eat Zoos?

Grizzled & Cynical
Have potentially an opportunity to pick up a red sea regal and trying to decide how 'at risk' my zooanthids will be. My prior experiences were that this fish will eat them all, but curious if anyone has kept a regal that left them alone (and perhaps some musings as to why)?

When I first got my Indo, my first objective was to get it eating by starting it with clam on the half shell etc...and then after that while it was still in QT I added different species of softies, zoas, LPs etcc..It didn't touch anything so now my second objective was to keep it well fed and hopefully it will leave everything alone in the DT which it did for the first six months...then it started nipping zoas and acans. It seems it only has a taste for certain species of them while leaving others alone...so I do still have zoas/palyes and some LPS in my DT which it doesn't touch, but no luck with acans and every piece of sponge in th LR is gone also ...it's hit or miss with these guys.
PS..I dont buy any expensive zoas, acans in fear that they might be on the menu...Ill try cheaper ones though...

Yeah, rather what I figured, thanks. I've got tons of sponge on my rocks and couple of acans, so don't really mind if they get eaten, but I also have a lot of zoos that I'd be bummed if they became a buffet.

Most reef-building corals contain photosynthetic algae, called zooxanthellae, that live in their tissues. And zoanthids are prime examples. If you think about what large angels love to eat, you will realize that zoanthids especially will be targeted.

Mine hasn't touched my zoo s yet but loves chalices and a candy cane coral. My chalices are all gone and my candy cane colony looks like hell but I leave It in the tank with hopes my regal will be satisfied with it.

Mine doesn't touch anything. Neither does my goldflake. Although my venustus just ripped throughout as all birds set and is working on another. I just hope the others don't learn from him or he stops at the two birdsnest
