Apartment Reefer

Thanks for the information, are you still using the Brutes? Thats what Im using, thanks

Yes, I'm still using the Brutes and they are still reading 0 Phosphate so I'm not too worried about them leeching.

Looking good mate, you guys and your LED giggle lights.......... bloody aircraft will prob try and land on your house when you light that strip up at night i reckon.....:p
Keep the updates and pics flowing my friend

Thanks Biggles! There will be some more pics this week as I continue to get the stand and equipment ready for the tank and sump. Another week or two and I should have them both. Been a looong wait and I'm ready for it to be over. Seeing how awesome your tank is along with others....I'm ready to start mine!

Nice! I've been looking to get ConeS. Let us know how it is once you start using it!

I will for sure post up a video of the skimmer doing it's thing once I have the tank up and running.

I need some help or ideas for my refug. I will have a nice area of space for the fuge so my main goal for it is to provide the most benefit to the system as it can. Is it best to:

- Run sand or miracle mud or a mix
- Run a deep sand/mud bed or just a 1-2"
- Best to use just Chaeto for macro or are others helpful as well? I was thinking about adding some Gracilaria for the Tangs I plan to add
- Live rock in this section? I was really planning to put most of the live rock live in the skimmer section with a small pump to keep detritus from settling.
- When is it best to "go live" on the refug area? Do you wait until the tank cycles or from day one?

Thanks in advance for any help.

What do you want from the fuge mate as it can be a food factory, a nitrate reducer or like mine a place to dump unloved acros lol.
I'm no expert at all on this stuff but i would have it running through the cycle as you're basically setting up a small ecosystem with your reef so get everything working together from day one so you can see what's what. If you want nitrate reduction it's best to go with 4-5" min of castor sugar fine sand (powder) and keep the surface clear so you have good water interaction with the bed.
As you don't have anything hard and fast set in mind i'd go with 1" of coral sand at the start and as the tank progresses you can always make changes if you put too many stupid fish in the tank and find nitrates are a problem (fish nappies would solve this).
The rock in the skimmer section is fine as i have chunks dropped in wherever they fit including the skimmer section. No socks or any other water straining devices is a must if you want to get everything cycling through the entire system without interference.
I know nothing about macro algae's as this is the first time i've had any and its growing in the display lol. It does suck up crap you don't want so as long as you physically remove the stuff through harvesting you'll get a benefit i'm sure.
The good bit is getting closer.............:)

Thanks for the information Biggs! I want it to be a food factory/nitrate reducer since I'm thinking about setting up a frag tank. I'm trying to sell off my Nuvo 16 set-up and use that money towards another system I would use as a frag tank. I would use the Nuvo16 but I just really don't like AIO tanks anymore. They are so hard to clean well and I would much rather just have a small sump. I was torn between setting up a frag tank or quarantine for fish, but since I plan of spending a lot more money on coral than fish and I don't have room for both I'm going with the frag tank.

Bigtime news fellas.... Houston, we have a tank! I love it! Planet Aquariums did an amazing job with my custom tank, everything is perfect. My sump is shipping this Monday or Tuesday, so I will have that this week and that is my last missing piece. :bounce2:

Ross is spot on buddy, looks super sexy on your cabinet  Sump not far away so it's looking like you'll be 'feet wet' soon. Is that black silicon, i love that look with razor'd silicon seams....... You must be super happy that the tank arrived just as you wanted it mate :)

Looks awesome! Lets see some shots if your cable management when you can!

Thanks, I will post up a lot more pictures this week once I have the sump and can get everything finished up.

Thanks biggs! Yes it's black silicon with razor's seems, very clean!

The tank and stand look great and I love the halide pendants

Thanks!

Right on! You got a sump from Rick at Synergy. He is a good friend of mine, I just helped him move his new tank into his place a couple of weeks back. You got a top quality product for sure. Nice design! Congratz.

Hot damn, i'm not the sort to care what goes on below the display as long as it all works but even i think that sump is bloody cool lol. Good stuff mate

Getting close now................... :)

Update time. I of course got a bad cold right when my sump came in so I'm not as far a long as I had hoped but I'm looking to have water in it this weekend. There where some things I didn't plan for that I had to change around and adapt. Going for the biggest possible sump I could fit under the stand was the cause of most of these problems, as it just didn't leave me any room under the stand. All in all I think it's coming along nicely. I'm almost done with all the wiring and cable management, which is nice.

Here are some pics!!

The sump is awesome!!!!Love it!
I also like the way you place the equipment!Neat!

Thank you. I made sure to take the time to keep everything organized so it would look nice and neat.

Glad you are feeling better so you can get this thing wet! Looks great so far.

Thanks Dowtish, I'm getting close.

I just completed the hardest part of any tank build.....the "scape". I'm actually very happy with it and don't think I will change a thing. Here are some pics. some of the smaller bits are covered with sand but once I get water in I will blow it all off.
