Apex Programming Problems in Web Browser

I have tried using Safari and Firefox and both of them won't let me get to the configuration screen to work on programming.

Any thoughts or input?

Thanks!

Are you running the latest firmware and updated www pages? I had the same issue, but after upgrading the www pages everything runs great.

Pardon the ignorance, I have been off the boards for a few months, but can someone point me in the right direction to update the firmware and www pages.

Thank you kindly!

Here is the direct link to the new firmware from Neptune's page
http://www.neptunesys.com/apex_090829.zip

Make sure your apex is hard wired, not running off a wireless bridge. Follow the instructions in the readme file.

If you get that done, you should be able to get the Configuration tab to drop down. If so, click on Module Setup. It should list your modules at the bottom. You will probably notice that some will say OLD in the SW Rev column. Go to each module at the top of the page and click on Update firmware. (the modules must be updated in this manner. they do not update when you run the updater tool)

Also, the main updater must run in a Windows environment at this time.

tamu - Thanks for the detailed reply, I appreciate it. I am a Mac user so do I just need to wait it out until I can update?

Thanks

Do you Parallels on the Mac; I've heard you can update running the uploader in that environment?

I don't and I don't know if it's worth the money to do it.

Is it possible for me to borrow a friend's PC laptop to do the update by hardwiring the ethernet into their computer?

Yes, if you can borrow a PC it is a single application with no installer. You just run it, then update the firmware then update the web pages and you are finished with the laptop.

Great! Thank you both very much. Now I just need to figure out some of this new language.

What happened to commands such as Max Change?

This was my program on my ACIII to make sure that my Kalk Reactor was never on at the same point as my Topoff and to make sure that it got a chance to settle for 30 minutes before it went on. I'm having a hard time translating this into APEX language! Any help would be great :)

OSC 005/240 ON/OFF Then KAL ON
If Timer KAL = ON Then TOP OFF
Max Change 030 M Then TOP OFF
If pH > 08.40 Then TOP OFF
Max Change 030 M Then TOP OFF

Max Change for AC3 is now Min Time for Apex. See the Hysteresis section on pg. 36-37 of the Apex manual for more details.

Can't Communicate to the APEX

Can't Communicate to the APEX

I can't establish communication between the Apex controller and the PC.

I tried apex in my browser as well as 192.168.1.50.

So how can I upload the firmware update?

Can I connect my PC directly to the controller as I am doing?

Thanks in advance.

If you are connecting them directly I would assume that you would need to use a cross-over Ethernet cable.

You don't use crossovers when you go through a router/hub/switch?

I have used crossovers to copy data from computer A to computer B when they are corrected directly.

You are correct, a switch sends and receives on the opposite pair so no need for a cross-over.

I interpreted your post that they were 'directly' connected with no device in between.

I have tried through a router and then directly.
Neither works.
I just get trying to connect attempt 1 then 2 then 3 and it never connects.

It must be some minor setting.

Any other thoughts?

Thanks,

I just switched to my desk top and got the firmware uploaded through the router.

It seems as thought the laptop was the problem.

The portable is running Vista Home edition and Norton
The desktop is running Vista Home edition and McAfee

I did not realize that the router reverses the pair but it makes sense now that I think about it.

TAMU thanks for your help.

I am waiting for my Linksys bridge to be delivered to put next to the aquarium or on the canopy.

This is not correct; the controller will auto-detect the connection wiring. It was correct a long time ago but the AC3 and Apex both handle either type of wiring.

You should use the same address in the uploader that you use for accessing the controller using a browser. If you are doing this then there are a couple things you can try and I can give you a list if you let me know the answer to the previous question.
