Apollo's 120 Build Thread!

I've yet to add a shrimp that is one of the things on the list and I think I just found what kind I'm going to get :). Love RC get so many good ideas lol.

Really a great setup. I especially like your rock work, can't wait to see it when your SPS grows out and fills in the top area of that setup. Great job.

Wow Marshall. That tank has come a long way. Looks great.

Do you or Dano know where those blue rubber bushings came from? They look like they could come in handy for all sorts of stuff.

That Urchin looks awesome along with the cleaner shrimp!

Thanks! I love the urchin as well. Possibly my personal favorite in the tank right now.

One thing to keep in mind about the Pederson's is that they are VERY small (around 1") and are clear. I didn't fully think this part through before I got this guy. I haven't seen him once since the first night I had him. It is the kind of specimen that is better off in a smaller tank.

Look'n good Marshall

I love the Peterson's, I have a pair now. :D

Thanks, Nick!

Sick! Did you get yours from Diver's Den also? Which tank are they in, and have you seen them since putting them in? lol

Looks great Marshall!

Thanks, Kirk!

Thanks! I can't take full credit for the aquascape, the ladyfriend helped out after I got started with a general idea of the three "legs" and two archways, lol. I am personally proud of it though!

Haha, I do believe that stage is quite a ways off, I want to get these five frags to start flourishing before I start going crazy with corals. I do have to say that I've done more to this tank in the past couple weeks than I have since I got it started. :D

Love the rock work Marshall. This tank will be TOTM material when it grows out.

Haha thanks, Dave. I'm sure your tank will make it there long before mine does, Mr. Impatient. :P Although like you said, it isn't quite all your fault lol.

I love the aquascape. What lights are you running BTW??

Thanks! I'm personally proud of it. :D

I'm running 2x 250w MH on Select-a-Watt Ballasts in Lumen Bright SE Pendants, I believe they are CoralVue lamps, but I know they are 20k. For my actinics, I am running 1x Marineland submersible LED strip. I had two, but one got water in the non-waterproof switch box and fried. Oh well, lol.

Thanks, Mike. It shocks me every day how far it has already come, lol. When are you getting yours back online?

I'd PM Dano about those. I can definitely think of a bunch of uses for them too, lol.

Finally got the R/O unit mounted! Here's the process...

First I was going to go overkill and mount it straight into the concrete with masonry screws, then I decided it was, as I mentioned, overkill. So I decided to only drill the holes that have the X marked over them. Unfortunately, my neighbors decided I was trying to drill through our dividing wall and gain entry to their home. A couple police reports later, (sadly, I'm serious about that) I moved on from the masonry screws...

...to glue! :P

Nicely sanded mounting board with the two heavier screws for the primary four stages.

Perhaps this was overkill as well, but I don't want to mess with this thing falling off of the wall. As we all know, they are heavy when full.

On the wall!

Installed the flush kit and pressure gague.

24 hours later, the job is complete!

Oh, and I picked up a couple things with those bagstuffers from Drs. Foster & Smith!

Now, onto the bad news...

I love this thing, but...

It munches on coral. I didn't take a picture of the other one it munched one, because I was more frustrated by this...

My COMPLETELY eaten acan.

Note to everyone, Astropyga radiata is in NO way, shape, or form reef safe. I called Live Aquaria with this information and they refunded me the $49.99 I paid for him, which is nice, but I have lost more than that with the damage to the corals. I have since moved all of the frags in my tank to the frag rack, where it has yet to go. I don't want to get rid of it, but I would not advise anyone get this that plans on having a reef tank. I will be eventually moving him to a FOWLR tank when I set one up. Until then, any and all corals are going on frag racks in my tank.

This is such a bummer.

Now for some good news...

A new addition! Four Line Wrasse

This little guy was the perfect size, I had to special order him. lol

They are always hard to get good photos of, they move too much!

Also, I just liked this photo too much to not share it... (it is currently my phone's wallpaper, lol)

Looks good Marshall!

I see there are mixed reviews on the reef safe status of that urchin. Doesn't look like you have much in the way of algae in your tank for it to graze on so it just picked the next best thing. :(

I've got one of those corner eshopps frag racks and it's handy but if it gets too heavy or hit with too much flow the magnets will slide on the glass. I just used a piece of doubled over scotch tape between the outside magnets and glass to keep it from sliding but a little smear of clear silicone left to dry on the outside magnets would probably work well and still allow you to slide the rack up and down easier for cleaning. I've just been too lazy to try it. ;)

Kirk,

Thanks, and you are probably right. I've stayed on top of the cleaning a little too well with this tank so far, lol.

I actually had wanted to get the eshopps frag rack after seeing it at your house on a pizza night. There was just no reason to get one until recently! I'd agree, the magnets are quite pathetic. Oh well. I might use your suggestion, I still have a lot of leftover silicone from putting the feet on my return pumps! Thanks!
