Forget the Vrod Mike, you will lose that battle. I can tell you the arguments you will hear as they will be the same me, and many of my buddys heard. 1st, sets a bad example for the kids. 2nd, the wife can't go with you because if anything happens, no one left to take care of the kids. 3rd, you won't have time to use it because the wife isn't staying home with the kids while you are off galavanting around. 4th, no where to put the fish and corals you buy because you will end up riding to pet stores. 5th, everytime you start it up you will wake the baby up from her nap. 6th, you are NEVER putting our child on that thing! 7th, you won't have time to use it because the wife isn't staying home with the kids while you are off galavanting around. 8th, you won't have time to use it because the wife isn't staying home with the kids while you are off galavanting around. Been there done that, always ends the same.

Keep it in the plan for negotiation reasons though. Maybe you can get a bigger fish room out of it. It is educational for the kids after all. :wavehand:

HaHaHA!!! :lmao: I am sure my wife could add another 20 on to that list too. I will still keep the faith but will use your words of wisdom and will save it as another negotiating chip later down the road, if needed ;)

Hmmm...educational for the kids you say... I can hear the coversation now "hunny remember how much fun the kids had at Atlantis Marine World and how much they loved Joe's tank? What do you say we...."

Hello all!
I apologize for being absent for a while from the non-photosynthetic forum. Wanted to share a quick shot of my Hacurias anemone :) Right now tank is at 72 degress and it has been looking good for the last 24 hours.

Way to go Mike. I can't wait to see how it goes. Did you add your sand bed back? Figures doesn't it you just get rid of it and then you get into these. Lol

Don,
Only sand was added to the right rear of the tank for the green cerianthus. The rest of the tank remains bare except for the occasional drifting sand.

I have a feeling it is going to creep back in. These things are additcting! You need the orange one on DD now. Come on you know you need it balance the greens. LOL How about a shot of both together?

I can see how it is easy to get hooked on them; minimal care needed and dramatic display of color. Honestly not sure I would add more unless I could score up an additional green one at a decent price. There was a nice white & purple one at Greenwich Aquaria that caught my eye....though.

For being able to capture them both in the same picture, close to impossible with how they are positioned in the tank. The Halcurias sp. is in the front of the tank with no substrate and the cerianthus is in the right back corner of the tank behind the main rock structure. Putting substrate to the front of the tank tends to be difficult with the MP40 & MP10 at full blast.

Do you have an updated FTS? Just read 35 pages of information that I will be using, so thank you

I will do my best to put up a picture or two by the end of the weekend.

There have been a few physical changes to the tank....it is now a full blown sps tank...just kidding ;)
The tank has had about 50% or more of the rockwork removed to create more white space in the tank. Creating more of a minimalist aquascape then it already was. This also vastly improved the flow in the aquarium and how food is delivered to the tank inhabitants.

To be completely honest, the tank took a beating for a period of time when my daughter was born...not going to deny it and it was a learning experience. It helped identify the weakest points in the system and what modifications had to be done with my daily/weekly husbandry of this type of aquarium to work with my current lifestyle. As well as add to a few personal theories of how the system should be designed around particular corals. As mentioned before in a different thread, I believe when setting up a non-photosynthetic specific system you either go with all Azoox LPS or just everything else. As feeding is extremely important in these type of systems; you have to look at how the food is going to get to all the corals, the size of the food that is getting to them, and in the end what isn't being taken in, how is it going to get out of the system. The whole picture is more complex for longevity of the system.

Wow just read the this whole thread what an amazing tank. Im interested in what u would change. Im in the planning stages of my NPS system im currently reseaching how to feed the tank

Cheers

Hey Mike, I just stumbled on a white Ctenocella pectinata. I know you have experience with them so what can you tell me about them? Can they tolerate light?

Can they tolerate light?

I know I am not Mike, and please excuse me for jumping in. I just got my first Ctenocella pectinata today from my LFS. I had been eyeing it for about a month, and it had been there a month before I noticed it (or cared?) according to the owner. They had it under a 6 bulb Tek t5ho fixture for all of that time, and there werent any ill-effects that I have noticed. They also have another one in their show tank under "sps worthy" LEDs. So, with those two examples, I would say that they are able to tolerate light.

Mike, I would like to know any other information you have on them, as I am still not sure what to feed it. I plan to just try a little bit of everything until I see some positive reactions

Well, you might be Mike? Lol thanks for the info!! Really just trying to decide where to put this guy. He is bigger than I thought it was.

Same thing with mine. Its huge haha! Looked normal-sized in the store. I saw a tiny bit of a feeding reaction with Oyster Feast, not what I was expecting though. I didnt see any response with cyclopeeze either

As promised....it has been a long time since a FTS was taken of the tank. Very simple & extremely easy to maintain with current lifestyle.

Lighting is under the Ledio Mystery Purple.
