Thank you.

My plan is to push them a little futher visually :)

Shelf's color can be adjusted

As I was told I was "pimping out my reef"

Was going to put them on something like this but it didnt work out so I am looking at a few other options. Want to have the reactors on an LED lit stand or have them in a display....who knows.

f you can get some better shots of the coral it would be great but I am thinking Nephthyigorgia. They have come in yellow from Oz so I dont see any reason for them not to come in some variant of orange. Did you pick it up?

Mike

yes I did, it was too interesting to pass up. I thought it was a Nephthyigorgia when I got it but the polyps are not like anything in any books or on-line under that family. The polyps are the same color and don't open up big at all, plus it really likes the light which is not my experience with Nephthyigorgias. Hmmmm, mystery. I'll get some shots of it opened up tomorrow.

If you didnt pick it up, I would be making a phone call right now ;)

See in a month of good feeding how big the polyps are. Semi-starved colonies often display in that manner and with some good o' feeding of cyclop-eeze, you should be golden.

Mike

I'm feeding it heavy. It does expand just not up. It is pretty cool and for sure different. I'll get a better picture today. Thanks!!!!

Starting to get back to updating my thread again. The last few months have been difficult with limited sleep, taking on the responsibility of another healthcare facility, and adapting to being a new parent (think I hear the violin playing in the background). Sleep and schedule are now balancing out so greater focus can be spent on my tank. This was also a great test to help identify any weaknesses in the system, what can be improved upon, and what husbandry can and cannot be neglected. Listing of what has been learned will follow.

First, a shot of one of my two Hypodytes rubripinnis (Japanese Red Rooster Waspfish).

Thanks!

Current fish list for the aquaria is as follows...

2x Hypodytes rubripinnis (Japanese Red Rooster Waspfish)

Pseudoplesiops rosae (Rose Island Basslet)

Centrogenys vaidiensi (false scorpionfish)

Holanthias fuscipinnis (yellow anthias)

Scorpaenodes evides (cheekspot scorpionfish)

Halichoeres melasmapomus (earmuff wrasse)

Plesiops oxycephala (peacock mini betta)

Mike

Shouldnt ;) ...he is extremely cryptic, around 3 inches and where he lives the scorpions/waspfish do not have access too. The scorps/wasps stay small; at best the scorps will reach less than 5 inches and the wasps even less than that...but you never can tell with the fate of fish.

after reading all 68 pages i have a few question... first off WOW, very impressive tank and thank you for sharing your journey with all of us.
1: what is your light schedule?
2: How do you like the new bio balls?
3: when s the upgrade coming?

Im in the process of upgrading my display from a year old 65gal w/20 gal sump to a 120 (48x24x24) sps disply with a 75 gal NPS under it hooked to my fish room that has 2 75gal sumps, a 40 breeder frag tank, and a 55 gal QT tank.

Is there anything you would change or do differently right off the bat? As this will be my first NPS tank im still in the info gathering mode.
I thank you for all your great input and everyone else for there input as well.

Thanks
Troy

1: what is your light schedule? Right now, the Profilux is programmed to turn on a single PAR38 spot lamp for 6 hours starting at 6pm daily.
2: How do you like the new bio balls? I like the fact that they are a different shape than the Warner Pellets. With the two different types in the reactor I haven't noticed them sticking at all. Nitrates still remain low and phosphate require the use of GFO to keep them at bay.
3: when s the upgrade coming? I wanted to sell my co-op this year (fall) but my wife wants us to push the sale of it to 2012, all being based around a family obligations.

What I would change or do differently? First would have a larger sump area. In my current housing set up there is no way for me to create the size sump that I would like to put in, plus would like to have better access to it. Biggest obsticle dealing with is space. Can be a real PITA when pulling skimmer, pumps, etc. out for cleaning. In addition to that would like a seperate area for preparing salt water. Dont have the luxury to having a dedicated mixing area but a very understanding spouse. Especially when i am doing water changes 2x a week and sometimes forget to wash all those bristle worms down her beautiful stainless sink (thanks hun ;)). The only other thing would be, which actually also has to do with space, is setting up a better dedicated viewing area for the tank. This is one of the requirements once I move. Wife gets her dream kitchen and pool....I get my fish room and VRod. Since my daughter is now in the picture there will be some compromise going on both sides.

As this will be my first NPS tank im still in the info gathering mode.
I thank you for all your great input and everyone else for there input as well.

Forget the Vrod Mike, you will lose that battle. I can tell you the arguments you will hear as they will be the same me, and many of my buddys heard. 1st, sets a bad example for the kids. 2nd, the wife can't go with you because if anything happens, no one left to take care of the kids. 3rd, you won't have time to use it because the wife isn't staying home with the kids while you are off galavanting around. 4th, no where to put the fish and corals you buy because you will end up riding to pet stores. 5th, everytime you start it up you will wake the baby up from her nap. 6th, you are NEVER putting our child on that thing! 7th, you won't have time to use it because the wife isn't staying home with the kids while you are off galavanting around. 8th, you won't have time to use it because the wife isn't staying home with the kids while you are off galavanting around. Been there done that, always ends the same.

Keep it in the plan for negotiation reasons though. Maybe you can get a bigger fish room out of it. It is educational for the kids after all. :wavehand:
