AquaC CLUB!

The biggest and really only problem is the patience to dial them in and knowing that you need to pick the right pump that probably will need dialed back for optimum performance. I haven't even bothered cleaning mine in the last couple months and I'm still getting a nice thick sludge collecting in my gallon jug container. It was just a mater of dialing it in right, though regular maintenance is still good, I'm just lazy and like that now I don't have to clean it several times a week to keep it working......;
 
Help-
My 240 has been up for 6 months and pulls a lot of skim but very little makes it to the cup most builds up in neck and stays there.... Any suggestions?

I have the EV120, and running it with MAG 7, it seems to do ok, but it is undersized for my 150G tank with 40G Breeder sump. I had to use the 120 do to space limitations. what Ehiem pump would you recommend?

The 1260 is what I'm using. never used the mag 7 on it but supposedly the 1260 works better. I have to keep it dialed back a bit on my tank, but I have only about 70 gallons or so and a pretty light bio load fish wise, wall to wall coral though. supposedly the 1260 is the preffered best pump for the EV120. I bought mine with a mag 5 and wish I would have just sprung for the ehiem 1260 from the get go. but on your tank it still may be under sized, but depends on bioload and if you use algea etc. to help remove nutrients.
 
Just to let everyone know, I recently bought an AquaMaxx ConeS - CO3, and to be honest, it skims the same amount as my AquaC EV180. Don't fall for the hype that new = better. If you're considering picking up one of these skimmers, you can get them at a steal since they are viewed often as 'old'. I'm not wanting to start a debate, but just to learn from me, that these are still REALLY good skimmers.
 
So I ended up picking up a cheap Eheim 1262 and hooked it up to my ev180. Holy crap is it quiet, same as my ConeS co3. After running both for a few weeks now, they complement eachother... I think I'll leave both in service.
 
I used the same model AquaC Remora HOB 8-9 years ago with great success and just recently bought another one for my new tank. Whats that old saying "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". The stuff these skimmers pull out is just nasty.
 
I've been looking into upgrading my EV180 with a Mag 95 but not sure if its needed. It just pulls a lot of nasty stuff pretty much every day.

Ive never owed any but that skimmer on my 180ga so I have nothing to compare to, all I know is when I dump the cup my wife dry heaves! So that's a good thing

I was looking at the AquaMaxx Cone 2 but just might upgrade my pump on the ev 180 to the Eheim 1262. I've had two of those pumps running my returns for four years now, trouble free!!
 
ive heard nothing but good things about the eheim pumps and the aquac, if your getting good pull of the type of skim you want I would go with if its not broke don't fix it. how ever if your have the $ and want to play go for it and see how you like it. I went in a different direction all together with my aquac and put on a dc pump to cut down on power bill and to give me one more way to tune the skimmer and I love it
 
Dead thread but hoping to get good responses from experienced members.

I have a 75g tank and just don't feel like the Urchin Pro is cutting it. I'm thinking of upgrading to an EV120. Can anyone attest to the noise level difference between the Urchin Pro and EV120? My Urchin Pro with a diy silencer is very tolerable, not silent but when I close the stand it's difficult to hear the hissing. If the EV120 is considerably louder than the Urchin Pro is there anyway to muffle the skimmer?

Also, I've read that the EV120 has great performance with an Eheim 1260. Has anyone toyed with a DC pump on the EV series? I'm looking at trialing a Jebao/Jecod DCT4000 on it to further reduce the noise of the skimmer/pump. Comments and suggestions please?
 
The eheim 1260 is the only pump I'd suggest using for the EV120 skimmer, tried others as have many people and nothing compares. DC pumps do not produce enough pressure for optimal performance with this skimmer design.

Can't compare to the urchin but my EV120 is not noticeable with a silencer installed and my stand is open back. Snagging an all plastic needle valve to regulate air flow is a must have upgrade also IMHO. It makes dialing in the skimmer much easier.

There is a silencer for these skimmers? Or are you talking about silencing the air intake?

i run a dc pump on my evo and love it! it gave me one more way to dial it in and hit that sweetspot
