Arduino controlled LED Fixture

I have decided to build a much more advanced LED fixture for a new tank in the works. This LED fixture will be using 30 Cree XP-E Royal Blue LEDs, 12 Cree XP-G Cool White LEDs, and 6 Cree XP-G Warm White LEDs. The fixture will be Arduino Controlled with full sunrise and sunset features as well as monitor temperature of the LED fixture itself and the aquarium temp.

The Arduino Duemilanove.

Nice, that's the controller we were talking about a few weeks ago. It's a lot smaller than I expected it to be. Was it still on sale or did the price go back up?

I hope this will help with any white wash or balancing the colors just right!

ghellin, how hard was it to build your Arduino? I purchased some CREE 3 W LED's and the ELN-60-48P dimmable drivers. I didn't know I needed a 10v power supply and dimmer also... Now rapid LED is out of the dual dimmers... so I am stuck. Will the Arduino run the ELN-60-48P's? I assume I will still need a 10V power supply? Just would like to get this up and running ASAP. Thanks,

Ok time for the fixture itself! This fixture will hold 12 1"x10" heatsinks along an aluminum frame, each heatsink will have 4 LEDs to make 48 total.

Here are the heatsinks for this project I will be using 12 but I have 14 extra for a different fixture for a friends tank.

Laying it all out.

The final product!

I used scrap angle to make brackets for the corners.

All the aluminum is held together with rivets, and the heatsinks are held with screws.
With 2.5 square inches of heatsink per LED (not including the aluminum frame) and more than plenty of air between each heatsink I plan to be able to run this fixture without fans.

So, when are you going to start taking orders? I volunteer to start the list! :fun2:

OOPS! I didn't mean to put the happy face that was shooting the other happy face! LOL
I guess I clicked it while the second one was down for the count!

Thanks guys!

The lights are in the mail from Austraila I should get them soon! Then I will need to solder the LEDs and run all my wires. The fixture will be suspended about 16" above the tank when it is finished.

Ok going back and reading my original post I made a mistake on my LEDs. I will be using 12 XP-G COOL whites, 6 XP-G Neutral Whites, and 30 XP-E Royal Blues.
I will not be using warm whites.

awesome
you have learned a lot in a relatively short amount of time
have you read the several hundred page thread here on RC

Thank you Lynn.

I have a few times, its a beast of a thread. I would never had attempted something like this if it wasnt for the incredible knowledge base that reef central is able to provide.
