Are mp10's big enough

Can I get away with 2 mp10's on either side of a 48x18x24 90g tank? It is going to be light rockwork and sps dominated. I'll have a closed loop or some kind of other ph's to go with it..

good question I would like to know as well. They are rated max at ~1500gph I think, so if you have two of those plus some good flow from your return(s) and other powerheads that would put it at like ~4-5000gph right.

I'm more worried about the flow being wide enough. I have one on a solana now which is only 1-2" less wide than a standard 90g but 4" shorter...

If 2 mp10's will work on a 90g I might just go out and buy another mp10 for my solana now... Might as well as long as I'm going to be using it on my upgraded tank as well...

1 40 was "ok" on my 90g. It wouldnt reach the opposite end of my tank very well so I don't think a 10 will. It certainly would be better with 2 10's but I dont think it will suffice. you would need something additional. 2 40's on my 90 dialed down just a tad are perfect.

Vortech's have a wider flow than Tunze's . So the laminar distance is shorter. If you can live with it that then get them . Otherwise it's 40's all the way . BTW MP 10's have been tested to push more than they are rated for .

How thick is the glass? that might be a limiting factor, i think the 10's only go to 3/8", while the 20's and 40's go to 3/4"

I am sure u will be fine with two MP10s they move more water then you would think.Just purchased a MP10 for my 46g bow when it's turned all the way up no matter what mode it's in it bends my seawhip on the opposite side of the tank 36" away..

This is very helpful. Since I'll have 2 of them I really only need it to be strong to about 24" away. I'll put 2 mp10's on to start and judge later if I need anything extra.

I will say that I was extremely skeptical when I bought 1 40 but after playing around for a while I was so impressed I bought another. The random current and sleak design is unmatched. I am very cheap and try to save a buck whenever I can. With that said I was looking really hard for a reason to hate these things so I could return them, but I can't. I don't know if the 10 will do what you want, but if you do go that route you should know there is a wireless driver for them now. That way you get more modes and you can run sync or anti sync. Good luck.

I talked to a few local reefers and I've decided to go with dual mp20's. They don't have the same issues as the mp40's (heat and noise) and I'll be able to upgrade later if I really want to so I'm more comfortable with selling my mp10 and getting some 20's... Now just to find a good deal :D

Good choice, i have an MP 20 and love it. Although, if your aquarium is near silent, like mine, you will be able to hear when the mp20 ramps up. Its not loud, but you can notice it.

Currently I'm running an aqua c remora pro skimmer so there isn't much quiet about my tank. I would welcome the sound of a vortech.

do the mp20s have the same options/features as the 10s or 40s? Those being the wireless wave driver and ES options?

I have 10s on my LPS dominant 75G (48x18). The 10s are turned up less than halfway and create plenty of flow for the corals. These things put out way more flow than most people realize IME.

Now for an SPS dominant tank, you would likely have to run them at close to max would be fairly noisy and probably shorten the equipment life.

Also, the new EcoSmart drivers can be used on the 10s, but not on the 20s.

My .02.

um, I haven't really read anything about the ecosmart drivers but they aren't appealing to me. Am I crazy for not caring about them?
