Elinder are you sure that its a leak ? My G2 seems like its leaking but because the foam pad on the riser tube is in contact with the skimmer body and runs accross the skimmer in the area where you are talking about.

Just a used asm skimmer.
How do you determine the difference between a G1, G2 & G3?
I dont know what mine is. It did not come with a pump.
Is it the diameter of the body?
whats the ext. body diameter on a G1 & G2/G3 series?

I think mine is aprrox. 5 inches.

I want to add the Remote skimmer mod Elbow Thingy to the Skimmer Cup of My g3...

Anyone have a link or instructions on the size hole and Tap I need?

Thanks!

Hey all, I recently found something on my G2 with recirc & direct feed. I had originally put a 90* elbow on the inside to direct the output of the pump back towards the input. I thought this would help with bubble production. Turns out it's the exact opposite. I removve the skimmer to clean it and forgot to put the elbow back in. The bubble production was significantly better and the foam head was 2x the size. Not sure if this was just my setup or not, but something to think about.

I believe that the elbow was causing the bubble to break up as much as re-driecting them towards the input. Once the elbow was removed I believe that the bubbles just filled the chaimber, functioning better.

Yeah, the elbow mod isn't something I'd really bother doing myself on a recirc skimmer. The idea of the elbow mod is to maximise contact time for the bubbles. But if you're doing re-circ you're grabbing the same water and throwing bubbles into it multiple times. So you're already getting damn good efficiency.

That being said I ditched the air filter on my G2. I found that when I moved to the Sedra 5000 it impeded foam production (probably airflow). But I'm still running the "Deltec" mod and the elbow on the inside.

I have the elbow inside my recirc skimmer, it was the only thing that started my skimmer working. The reason is, without the elbow, the water was blasting off the side of the chamer, and rolling up causing massive turbulence in the riser tube. That was killing foam production.

Ok....I stuck a 45 on it....I see that the turbulence is gone but alot more bubbles are making it to the sump.....I'll give it a few day to see what happens

I just wanted to say that I have had my G3 up and running now for a month and I love it. I know alot of people mod these things but I honestly am not going to do any because I constantly see skimmate like this.

I don't know that I can improve upon perfection.

This is after one week of running mind you, but still, it is on my 30 gallon cube with 30 gallon sump which is way less tank than it is rated for. I have a Royal Gramma and a False Perc and that is it as far as fish. As of right now my rock is cooking down and so my tank is on egg crate which is all the more amazing to me that it has pulled that much out

Please help me welcome the latest and greatest skimmer from All Seas Marine, the ASM Mini.

We just got our first one in, I have taken several pictures.

Man that is a cool looking little skimmer. Now the Nano boys can have one in their sump. ASM really has it on the ball right now.

whitten not to call you a liar, but i used to have an asm skimmer and they doo work well. but having that dark of skimmate and that much in one week would lead me to believe that there should be some foam somewhere in the collection cup, whether it be ontop of the skimmate of aound the neck, with my big skimmer, i get a cup full of foam, then it turns into liquids

OK- I just bought an ASM G3 for my 120. I use an old "pos" skimmer now and it was time to upgrade.

I have a few questions:

How deep should the water be that the skimmer sits in?

Any tips that I need to know to help me get the best out of my G3?

Is running the skimmer for 24 hours with vinegar and water a good idea to help the break it in? If so, how much?

Thanks for all your help in advance.

Rick

Doing this is not to help in break in, but to remove any oils or manufacturing material that make the breakin period take longer. As to how much, it's a variable that will be different for each skimmer.
