thats a good idea humpn
you can kill 2 birds with one stone by using the outlet of the skimmer going through a uv steraliver just put a gate valve before the uv

I might give this a try cause I want a steralizer but cant have anymore pumps creating heat in my tank

does anyone think this will work??

Its works very well for me. I have the 1 1/2 gate valve coming off the skimmer and then I have the uv sterilizer. I do have to say it takes a little more fine tunning when you have your overflow feeding your skimmer, at least I did.

good luck!

We need some pics/video of this thing in action. Any problem with micro bubbles returning to the sump?

WOW, probably kicks some serous butt! My whole thing was trying to keep my electric bill down as much as possible. Down to only 2 pumps (total 100 watts) running everything outside of the tank and only 17 watts running my internal water flow which is 2 DIY MJ900 Maxi-streams putting out over 3000gph.

Couple questions on your setup, What about micro bubbles in the return? I get a few on my G4 w/ only one 9000 and how much water is feeding into the skimmer. I thought it was supposed to be approx 200gph. The one sedra 9000 has to be feeding it a lot more then that. Probably wouldn't be able to do the gate mod with it that way either. Looks like a really mean skimmer though!

how are you creating that much flow with those???
Here's the link with all the info. http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=717034 I didn't believe it at first either. If you read toward the middle-end it talks about the flow being measured. User ID: Lutz493 builds the kits for people on his CNC machines. His latest dual props put out approx 1800gph. Our you can DIY.

I have a Berlin that is doing nothing! I restarted the tank after taking it down but I get close to nothing as far as skimmate...Should I be getting skimmate even though the tank is not stocked at all???

I think that the G3 is way to small for a 300gal tank.......I have a G3 on my 110gal with the rec & gate valve mods and it works great.......If I had a 300 gal tank I would go with the G4x minimum or a G5.....the ideal hight for water in the sump for the G3 with out the recirc mod is 8"........go to www.amsskimmer.com for the correct size skimmer for your tank, and dont be shy about calling them.....they are EXTREMLY helpfull

I have to DISAGREE!! anytime my G3 was sitting less than 11", it quit working.

I was looking at sumps today (basically big rubbermaid tubs) and found one that was 3.5ft x 1.5 ft x 1.5 ft, about 56 gallons maximum. It has handles though that have "surface skimming" like notches so that if the water overflows, it will come out at those two spots... kind of weird, but maybe something creative could come from this... anyway, how high up does the water level need to be for a G3 with recirculation? How high will my sump need to be?

Thanks!

Here you go!

I cleaned the cup on the skimmer yesterday and I actually have nothing accummulated for at least 24 hours!

There are bubbles in the chamber but nothing going to the cup!

Help....

Well, I just spoke to someone at Red Sea Berlin, she said that its normal for me not to be getting anything now b/c the tank is not stockesd. I just thought I should still be getting something...

Hopefully it will kick in in a few weeks.
