I'v got the gate valve mod,now dealing with a buble factory. Are you guys having massive amount of bubles comming out of outlet?

Well I did the recirc mod and I did a couple goofs.
1. I didn't notice that my 22/32 drill bit was MUCH larger than the 1/2" tap.
2. I drilled the feed hole in the cone rather than in the reaction chamber.

The bit I got from e-bay seems to be for cutting metal and after getting about halfway through the plastic it stopped and caused some plastic to chip away from the force. I ran the bit through on "reverse" and made the hole just fine from heat and friction. I then put the 1/2" tap into my drill and noticed how small it was. I went around the hole a few times with it anyway to even it out and enlarge the hole a tad. I wrapped my 90 degree 1/2" MPT to 1/2" hose barb in tape and screwed it in. No leaks what so ever!

The skimmate production is much better with the recirc mod. In fact after only 24 hours I was surprised to see how much it had pulled. It's a 58 gallon tank ASM G2 fed by a MJ-400. I drilled the hole in the cone because I thought that was the farthest spot from the skimmer's outlet so that would give the greatest contact time. I have nothing to compare it to and the bubbles move to fast to really gauge if I'm doing more harm than good by having it up so high. The neck does show some turbulence but no more where the feed is than on the other side of the cone. Has anyone else done this that can compare it to having the feed down low by the pump's intake?

CAn anyone tell me what size chamber is needed for an ASM G3 with the gate valve mod? I am building a sump and don't have the mod done on mine yet. Thanks for the help.

Also anyone know of anyway to patch my goof of placing the feed in the cone?

I would get some 1/16th or 1/8th inch thick acrylic from Home Depot. Cut a small square, big enough to cover the hole by a 1/2" all around.
If you have a torch, warm the piece untill it gets floppy, or you can use your stove burner.
Once it is just warm enough to be bendable, place it on the curve of the cone. You have to make sure it is not too hot or it could melt the cone. Dump some cool water on it once it is molded to the right shape.
I'd use some weld-on #16 to glue it.
May not be pretty but that should work.

I had mine with the gate valve mod in a 11 3/4 x 13 inch
compartment in my old sump. I also did the recirc mod and installed a new sump. The new compartment is 11 3/4 x 16 inckes and the G3 fits with room to spare.

Will do, thanks for the tip. :)

You mean baffle height???
Sorry, should've phrased differently, i just meant how deep of water should it be in?

YES I KNOW THIS IS A REALLY SILLY QUESTION AFTER SUCH A LONG ONGOING THREAD, BUT IM REALLY IN THE DARK HERE.

CAN SOMEONE OFFER A FEW LINKS TO IDEAS , TO MOD MY G3 WITH A GATE VALVE ?

AND WHAT EXACTLY AM I ACCOMPLISHING BY DOING THIS, BESIDES SPLASH REDUCTION, AND POSSIBLY NOISE.

aND HOW DO I MOUNT THIS MOD TO MY STAND TUBE ? ( AND WHAT SIZE WOULD WORK ? WILL THE PVC CUTTING FIT RIGHT INSIDE THE TUBE FOR MOUNTING ???

THANKS SO MUCH ~ TONY

Did the recir and feed mod (w/MJ1200) on my G3 last night. Don't think the skimmer was out of the tank for more than 1/2 hour. Really just drill two holes.

Most noticable is the bubbles in the riser much finer and firmer, also creamy.

Sad day for my G4x.

I officially put my modded ASM G4x on notice and it has 2-4 weeks to find another home. I was caught fraternizing with a BM250 and fell in love. Sorry ASM, but I was not getting the love I was used to getting when we first met.
