I did the the recirc, direct feed and gate valve mods on my G3 a few weeks ago. I'm thinking that I might move my direct feed further down the skimmer.

My questions: "Does your feed come directly from the overflow, or do you use a feed pump?

And, "Where (how high up) did you drill the hole for the feed?"

Thanks

Larrydawg, In doing some reading in recent post on the DIY forum.. It does look best to feed low... in fact very low. to keep turbulance down.
Hey, do you get any bubbles from you feed?-- I see some large ones.. may have to redesign my feed line ;)
BTW, guys.. As a trial I removed my 45's on the discharges of my r/c pump and the feed. Skimmate production went down. (I believe --again due to turblance at neck)

What about the possible Idea of adding a 90 degree elbow to the inside of the chamber alone. Pointing more of the air-filled column, all the way to the bottom ??

Has anyone tried this ?? Speaking of just that Mod alone, no recirc. ??? ~ Thanks

90 pointed downward on discharge of pump..Yes, its been tried.. Causes alot of micro-bubbles in output.. turn it sideways, a little. Makes a big difference;)

If my sedra 3500 were to break down and had to be replaced.
What different brand of pump can I use ??

How could I get a RIO for instance, fit the larger diameter elbow for the input of flow ??
Im not very plumber savvy , thanks for the help ~ Tony

First you would want to use a needlewheel pump. Why not another Sedra?
Don't think Rio makes a needlewheel.

I thought about hooking my drain up to the feed but I've heard it's hard to control the amount of water entering the skimmer that way. IE I was going to "T" my drain so that about 1/4 (100 GPH) would feed the skimmer. However sometimes I adjust my return which would throw my feed out of whack.

I found it easier to mount a MJ 400 sideways right next to my drain and use that to feed the skimmer.

For the feed mod on my G3, threaded in a 90° bard fitting similiar to what's shown at mod

The fitting is about 1.5" down fr the top of the chamber, using a MJ1200 for a feed pump.

Has anyone tried the new needlewheels that Euroreef is using on their ASM?

http://www.melevsreef.com/log.html

Melev swapped out the old ones on his Sedra 5000 for the newer model and supposedly they chop the bubbles much smaller and draw much more air. I ordered a new one for my G2 to see how it does.

I'll post up some before and after pics once it's up.

Are you reffering to the threadwheel impellers or a new design needlewheel?

$8.00 for a drill bit and they crossed out the MSRP price of $6.60.
Ouch. It is probalby worth it but I hate seeing that.

Anybody find a different vendor for the new needlewheel?

Sad day for my G4x.

I officially put my modded ASM G4x on notice and it has 2-4 weeks to find another home. I was caught fraternizing with a BM250 and fell in love. Sorry ASM, but I was not getting the love I was used to getting when we first met.

Please pm me when/if you post in the for sale forum. I've been looking for a used G4x for a while

Anyone know if the new needlewheels will work on the Sedra's that are used on the ASM skimmers?

On the Euroreef site, they say they use modified Sedras.
