Is the uniseal on G4X for the Sedra 9000 the same size as it is on the G3 for the 5000? If not what size is it? Getting ready to order one and a gate valve to do the mod on a G4X that has not arrived yet.

Thanks.

I have been reading through this monster thread becuase I am going to be getting 1 or 2 ASM G4 Plus's for my 240 gallon FOWLR tank I am setting up....

I've been specifically looking for water height of the sump that the skimmer will be placed in..

it seems 6-9 inches is ideal from what I have read....

my question is, is there a way in the sump to have your skimmer compartment at 6-9 inches but yet make the refugium compartment higher to say 12 inches or so..... i want to maximize the volume in my refugium but not at the cost of less skimmer efficiency.......

i am sure there is a way but i can't draw it out in my head....

I have both my skimmer and refuge at the same height, probably around 10 or 11 inches of water. I only have one inch to work with above my skimmer, no problems at all, just can't see down the skimmer with the lid off. I usually wipe a clean spot in the collection cup each time I empty so I can see my water height.

Oh, I have one G4 Plus in my 220 gal system, works great. No need for two in your setup.

Here's photo if it helps (early photo, nothing in refuge yet)-

No worries, I ordered one a week ago with overnight shipping. I received an e-mail a day later saying:
"We usually ship with 48-72 hours"

It's been almost a week and I haven't received an e-mail stating that they've shipped it yet. I also left a few messages with ER's "Order Placement / Order Tracking Dept." but they haven't returned my calls yet. :(

I also ordered one and haven't received any communication from them either

I think my impellar has worn out on the sedra pump there is a lot of play between the impellar and the housing

therefore causing the pump not to move as much water

any other sugestion s before I order a new one??

Did you order the new pump? Is the issue gone? I have the same issue on my G4x. I was thinking the pump was too small but please let me know what you did to alleviate the problem.

Lowered my direct feed mod!!

Lowered my direct feed mod!!

I recently lowered the hole for my direct feed mod on my G3. I initially put it about 1 1/2" below the cone, as shown on the ASM site. I drilled a new hole the same height as the original hole (that recieves output from the sedra), attached the feed from my overflow, and capped the old hole.

I now get much less turbulence in the neck area, and much darker, thicker skimmate!

Thanks Charlie Davidson for recommending this! (several pages back!)

Charlie,

Do you think this mod would hold true for all of the ASM models?
I have a G4x and want to do a direct feed mod. I will replace my mag24 with an Eheim 1262 to slow down my sump flow. I am using duel 1" drain lines. I wonder if I should join the two together, or just feed with one drain. I will use the sedra 9000 for a recirculating pump. The return pump (eheim) will also feed a slow flow refugium.
Anyone?

I don't see why it wouldn't work with a G4 as well as it did on my G3...

I used a 1" uniseal. My return line is 1" ID braided vinyl hose. Its attached attached to a 1" hose nipple X 3/4 NPT fitting ... to a 3/4 " NPT to 1" slip fitting ... to 1" PVC ... to uniseal. Works great!

G4+ came in today. I have it running in the bath tub now to break it in.

I got a gatevalve mod kit from asmskimmer and it's installed.

downside is it's a bit noisy with the gatevalve mod on it.... read somewhere in this thread where someone capped off the top of the gatevalve and drilled a hole in the cap to quiet it down. I may have to try that.....

Larrydawg, looks like you guys have it under control here! Fishel, ( the cap helps supress the noise alot) Waldomas, make sure you change out the return pump.. I bet you will big differance- clearer water, etc. (I used to run ozone- no need anymore)

Fishel,

On my G3, I noticed that much of the noise went away as I adjusted my gate valve. The rest was muffled very well with a rolled up piece of filter floss that I stuck down into the top of the sand pipe.

I have a drilled cap on my Durso standpipe overflow in the tank, and it is excellent in reducing the noise as well. I just didn't have another cap, so the floss worked in a pinch; I just have never changed it!

Hey Guys, FYI... I have been playing with Skimmers alot .. The G4X I have, has seen a few different pumps/mods.
I have been testing it with a "Good" ( coralife SL-38) ( $60 at - (www.premiumaquatics.com ) air pump as a feed to my sedra 9000. It ran great for 2 weeks, then I drilled it out the ventri hoping to get more air.. Man that messed it up.. that made too big of bubbles. :( I removed the air pump.
Anyway, I have the air pump set back up. It has been doing well for 3-4 weeks. Very tiny bubbles, great head of foam...While I am not saying that its AS good a skimmer as top brands-- I am saying that it produces skimmate as well as many of them..
( Meter 18" from ventri reads 850-900 lph air) (Air pump is much more)

They must really have a large backorder list.
It took 3 weeks but finally got mine today.

Greetings all! I just joined the club with the purchase of a G2. I was wondering if anyone had made some kind of index page for mods or advice on adjustments. This thread is massive!

Hey i just set up my G4x and my sendra pump seems a little loud.. I can barely hear my mag 12 but can here this pump alot... Normal?

Is it the pump or the air line that is making the noise? You can make a noise muffler for the air line. If it's the pump, you may want to take the pump apart to see if the shaft was set correctly in the rubber pieces at each end.
