IMHO, if you can smell it -- you are running too much OZ (25 per 100g) . BTW, what sized tank? have you made it ( G3) rec.? Also- IMHO, if you run a properly sized skimmer, you do not need OZ!
Oh, I forgot to answer your question about drilling holes in top. This can be done, adding something to hold Carbon. ( gets rid of the OZ smell) if you need more info on what it would take to do this- please feel free to PM me. (done it)
I have a G2 with the sedra 3500 pump..................and i hated it, never pulled out any skimmate, i did the gate valve mod, but still crappy performance.
I changed the pump to a Gen-X 4100 Needlwheel, now it pulls a heck of a lot more skimmate.........SWEEEETTTTTT
I have installed a G1X and has been running for around 1 month on a tank that is stocked heavy fish wise, but doesn't seem to be doing or pulling much of anything......I do get a thick buildup in the neck of the skimmer, but it never seems to make it to the collection cup???? The skimmer sits in about 8" of water and have tried adjusting the water levels in the sump....Any ideas how to make it produce????
i would say first make you clean it weekly, skimmers always work better when the neck is clean. and then concider the gate valve mod. if your are producing thick foam, you just need to dial it in better.
The skimmer has been pulled numerous times and thoroughly cleaned, but each time it seems like it's just not enought juice to push it into the cup. Possibly the gate valve mod might do the trick for being able to fine tune it even further?????
I did the recirculation and gate valve mods and tried running the whole thing externally, like lots other people have observed, there are leaks especially where the skimmer body and the cone meets though the o ring in place.
Been thinking placing a layer of silicon on the edge, what do you think how this might work out. Please share your experience on how to seal the leaks.
I know silicon won't be the best option for a tight seal, I know for sure replace the o ring won't work either because the plastic molding is perfertly even, anyone else with better suggestion, how about epoxy glue to completely glue the whole thing together, by the way anyone know how to take the cone and skimmer body apart.
ddevlin,
How did you silicone the thing together, did you take it apart before putting bead of silicone around the edge. the opening of my G3 is pretty tight. for my arm to get through. Hope my wife can help me out later if the body needs to be cleaned.
