I need to find the 3/4" elbow used to connect the sedra pumps to the ASM skimmer.

Can anyone tell me where to get these long radius elbows??

Thanks!

I am having problems with my skimate on my G4+. I tried for months to use the gate valve but it would just overflow everyday. I went back to the original pipe that came with the unit and it doesn't overflow, but seems that it doesn't skim much-maybe 1/3 in per day. The water level in the skimmer is right at the bottom of the cup and the bubbles are just under the top of the cup. Could it be that I just dont have a lot to skim? I have about 6 corals a clam and 8 fish in a 180.

gate valve mod

gate valve mod

What i like about this skimmer (g2)compared to my old ss 125 is that when i shut down the sump pump to feed.. the skimmer stays constant, it does not fluctuate in the collection cup. But when i added the gate valve mod it will not stay constant anymore. I tried several variations. I have the skimmer in 9inches of water, I wanted to do the gate valve mod into a sock to prevent the microbubbles from entering the tank. any ideas??

well i've been in the ASM club for a little while now. first had a baby G with a sedra 2500 on it cause the gen-x was garbage and just wasent getting the job done like the sedra's. but recently i set up a 90g with a G3. OMG this thing is a beast. it was used so i didnt have to wait for a break-in period. as soon as i turned the pump on the thing was pushing out a whole lot of crud. i felt bad for my community cause judging fro mthe amount of crud it pulled out in the first few hours you would think they were swimming in sewage. needless to say i am happy with ASM. they got my vote, i dont think i will be changing skimmers for a long while.
on a side note. do yo uthink the standard G3 is enough for a 90gRR with a 30g sump? do you think it would necessitate a recirc or GV mod? -Francis

I have a 75 and did both mods on mine. Some might say its overkill, but they really made a difference in the amount and quality of the skimmate. I think it takes a great skimmer and slams it into overdrive!!

thanks guys for the input. i think i will just go ahead and do the mods, i hear so many good things about them, i might as well join the mod club as well. haha. thanks again guys. -Francis

Hey All,
I picked up a used G3 pretty cheap at a LFS but I am missing the venturi and hose. The sedra 5000 does seem to have everything else. Is ASM Skimmer the only place to pick up spare parts? Their shipping was crazy high.

Also, I actually did read at least 80 pages of this thread but is there a certain page for mods for these things? LIke the elbows and Tees some people were putting inside the innner chambers etc.....

Thanks as it looks like I am going to keep this instead of dumping on Ebay to get an Octopus 200

I have a stock G3 on a 74g bowfront and a recirced and modded G3 w/feeder pump on a 120g FOWLR and the modded unit pulls twice the brown crap of the stock unit. My G5 is also modded and recirced with a feeder pump and it pulls so much garbage that I just had to plumb the skimmer cup drain line right to my floor drain. I couldnt keep up with the output with a 3gal bucket! And it's sticky brown crap, not clear brown stuff.

Try www.globeaqua.com for parts

Bozack, If you want to start using it before ventri comes... You can just place a air line hose into the suction of pump. It will pull air just fine. (wedge air line it the Y looking thing)

I just got a G3! Im amazed at it already. It was 7 months used with afeed, RC, and the gate valve mods. Its been set up for 2 days and its pulling stuff already. how long does it take to break one in after it has been cleaned thoroughly?

g3

I just got a g3 two weeks ago.
I set it up on my 75 reef in place of my etss 500.
And to be honest I can't understand why everybody loves these things.
first It took a week to pull anything, that seems like a long time for break in.and It doesn't pull much at all compared to my etss.I have owned all etss models under the 800 and decided after reading so much about needlwheel skimmers to give it a shot.
I wasted $320 on this thing.
I just got uniseals for recirculating mod and didn't like the gate valve mod.it took up to much room.
Anyway I can't believe for the price how cheap these are made.I also can't believe that I have to do (mods) to make it work better.
I will give it a month then I am going back to plug and play downdraft.
I feel they are way more powerful and built better.
