ATI Powermodule Hybrid Club

IMO having 2 ATI ABSpecials, is rather like having 3 ATI Coral+ in terms of brightness/whiteness...hope that kinda makes sense. The two ABS hit the green, yellow, orange/red portion of the spectrum pretty well.

In addition to having the 2ABS, I have another Coral+ which is considered a white bulb. So, having 2xABS and 1xCoral+ in an 8tube combo covers the spectrum adequately. Remember also that you have the WHITE LED's to ensure you are covering the spectral range adequately.

The blue/green portion of the spectrum is covered by the ABS and Coral+ tubes anyway, so i felt that 3 Blue+ is plenty; hence the section of the spectrum that I feel is lacking is the violet/actinic portion.

The addition of the two Actinics certainly pops a little extra. I see the extra flourescence in my sps as well as my scolymia.

Will the combo work? Too early to tell as I restarted my tank due to issues. But if you think of it this way: there are loads of tanks with 6 tube T5 units that run sps tanks with very nice sps colours. On our hybrid units we also have the option to use the LEDs.

So sacrificing two tubes to use actinics in an 8 tube hybrid unit is no problem at all IMO...and isn't really a sacrifice. Those Actinic tubes have closer to 100% PUR than any other tube.

Those Acitinc tubes are boosting the part of the spectrum that is a little lacking in the rest of the tubes and the ATI hybrids do not have Actinic LEDs, so I really believe they are useful.

I had very nice colours in my tank using this hybrid unit, so I am confident that with a few considerations and as long as you don't go crazy, most combos should work pretty well.

Hopefully in 3 months time I will be able to post some nice sps photos like I did previously.

Hi Sahin,

Would you still run an actinic tube if you only had a 8 X 39W Powermodule without the leds?

Thanks

Sahin,
Thanks for the reply. Couple other questions for you, what percent do you run your leds at when you have your t5's on? If you wouldnt mind sending me your profile, Id like to compare it to mine.

Also, with your current bulb and led configuration, are you pleased with the astetics of the tank? With my configuration, my water looks "milky" which makes me miss my mh's. I'm thinking that the actinics may help to offset that look.

I am very happy with the look. One of my LFS runs 250w Radiums and it looks pretty similar with an extra pop from the Blue LED's and the T5 actinics.

Here is a video of my tank as it currently looks. Crappy Iphone shoot, but I have no milky look.

My water is crystal clear as I run GAC and I love the shimmer as well as the tank being bathed in light.

PM me your email address and I will send you my light profile.

There are many 6x39watt T5 tanks out there. 6x39watt on an ATI unit coupled with ATI T5 tubes is VERY capable.

Add 2 more tubes for the Actinics and you've just increased PAR and added almost 100% PUR as well.

Here is the Apogee response curve:

A large portion of the PAR provided by the Actinic tubes is NOT picked up by the Apogee Quantum meters. I'd estimate at least 40-45%!!!

So many people claim the Actinic tubes have low PAR, but dont realise that if they measured using a Licor meter, they'd get much higher PAR values out of these tubes.

Also, our eyes are not sensitive to light in this area so that further makes people think these tubes dont provide enough PAR.

So, 8x39watts made of 3xCoral+, 3xBlue+ and 2x True 03 Actinic is an excellent combo IMO.

I contacted ATI only the new lights can be upgraded and you do it thru the software under lamp is upgrade firmware if it is greyed or does not let you click it your lights do not support it

I bought one of the original ATI LED/T5 fixtures and the upgrade firmware in the menu is grayed out. I also still have the flickering bug. You mean to tell me I'm stuck with that? That's ridiculously. I dropped 2k on this light and I can't even upgrade the firmware?

I know that's nonsence. I'm going to sell mine and I'll never buy from them again.

Is the upgrade a fix for the flickering? To my knowledge ATI said the flickering was a hardware problem, not firmware.

Of course, I found that to be false and helped dozens of people resolve the flickering problem without any hardware fixes.

No I'm just mad that I got this light 3 months ago and I'm told that I can't upgrade it. I want to add an ati 8x80watt sunpower with 2 reefbrights anyway

These two quotes contradict but that's not my point.

If the firmware upgrade does nothing for your lights, what's the point?

Not trying to argue here. It's your tank and money so do as you please. Others will see the negativity and avoid something that is truly a good product IMO.

I guess I don't see the problem because you can truly upgrade your lights with new LED clusters whenever you want. A firmware upgrade that does nothing for your light is pointless.

Yeah your right. I meant an led power module. Thanks for pointing that out.

I was told by the ati rep that I can NOT upgrade my led clusters period

That's odd because Oliver specifically told me that clusters could always be replaced if wanted...maybe that changed though with new technologies.

After 6+ months of not having a tank I would like to throw out a quick observation. Maybe I'm wrong though and just don't know where to find all this...here goes

I've tried to research out all the new ATI stuff on this fixture and the Sirius LED fixture. There is very little info out there and what I do find tends to be third party stuff that can be contradicting at times.

Where is ATI's presence in this country? ATI North America is alright but lacks some really good pictures and info that I want. So where do I go to find all that?

Again, maybe I'm looking in the wrong places but with such great products it would be nice for ATI to have a presence here again...

No I have the older one. I got it as a factory second so it was a little older but never opened. I have the email still.
