Okay cool . I won't have much SPS I don't believe . Maybe just a couple . I guess instead of wondering if I can put them toward the top , might be better off going 8 bulb . Hopefully I can find one used here shortly . So if I do LPS , I'm guessing the 4 bulb is enough . But the colors and the brightness would be a lot better with the 8 bulb I'm thinking . Plus I'll want clams and anemones .

Sps is very additive. I started with a mixed tank now I only have sps and a few pieces of zoas. Never say never :)

I had a matured mixed reef a month back. Now I am doing a revamp and have decided to only keep sps and a few chalice. I hope my 4 bulbs hybrid is good enough for sps. At the moment I have it ramped up to 64% with only 5 hrs peak time. So far so good -- fingers crossed. When it reaches to 73%, I shall measure the par values again.

Agreed on options. 8 bulbs will be better trade off is cost. But rest assured 4 bulbs will work also. I have no problem growing sps anywhere in the tank. In fact I find sps is quite adaptable to lighting levels. I have ssc growing at the surface (you can see the plug glued to the overflow) and at the bottom. Same amazing color and growth rate. Out of the 30 or so species I have kept only one or two could use more light.

Originally was going to go sunpower or powermodule with add reef brite in a canopy , but figured might as well get it all one. I wish everyone agreed that a 4 bulb would work on a 120 lol I'm leaning toward 8 bulb unless I run across a 4 bulb first . Then might try it out and if it don't work , add 2 Retrofits .

If I do go with a 4 bulb, are the Leds bright enough where I would still have a lot of color ? Or does the T5s wash the LEDs out ?

Jumping on the ATI LED Powermodule band wagon...got myself a 48" 3x75W LED & 8X54W T5 can't wait to see this thing in action!

Why, does it not work? I'm planning to upgrade my laptop so it's good to know beforehand.

I have spoken to ATI directly now (I have a shop in the UK) and there is compatibly issues with Windows 10..... see here for ATI's email to me.....

Dear Tony,

we got the information from a few customers already and our software development is just trying to solve this but it looks like this is a driver issue from Windows 10 as they have a problemm with the virtual COM port.

It looks like we have to wait for a windows update in worst case.

Mit freundlichen Grüßen / With best regards

I just mounted my 48" Powermodule Hybrid LED and now I realize that the cable is not long enough to be routed from the back side of my tank to the electronics chamber.

Do they make an "extension cord" for the light plug? Worst case, I'll have to mount my ATI box on the wall on the right side of the tank.

What is the closest you guys would be comfortable putting the light above the water? Unfortunately my desk is facing the tank and my eyes feel like they are slowly getting blinded by the light.

I can either fabricate an acrylic shield all the way around or lower it as low as it can go. This tank is planned to be 90% SPS with a gigantea.

Anyone ever experience their light not following their schedule? For example my 1st set of T5 lamps should come on at 9 and off at 21:00. I noticed they were on at 5 am this morning. Right when I made the program also it was about 10am and those bank of T5s never turned on even though they should have been on by 9am. My clock is set correctly.

Also isn't it supposed to hold the time in a power outage? Mine doesn't.

Now it's dimming the bulbs when I have it to run 100% all day. They should stay at 100% until they shut off. Any ideas on what I can do to get this thing to work?

I think depends on the duration of the power outage, it resets the lamp to some other time. Not entirely sure about the time it resets to, but noticed that happens if I turn the lamp off for a few minutes to replace the bulbs. It's an annoying issue for sure.
